Will Najee Harris play in Week 17?

Harris is not listed on the injury report this week, so barring any setbacks he is on track to play on Christmas.

Should you start or sit Najee Harris in Week 17?

Harris is having a solid season. He already has a career-best 48 red zone touches, and with 10.5% of his runs traveling at least 10 yards, he’s on pace for his best season in that regard, too.

Nevertheless, we seem to have reached a certain limit. He hasn’t managed to reach 10 routes in any game since George Pickens’ injury (one catch in those three games) and hasn’t had a rush of more than 20 yards since early November.

Jaylen Warren scored 12 runs and caught all five of his targets in Baltimore, giving us a taste of some energy that Harris had been missing lately. This is a by-committee situation where I still imagine Harris will lead the duo in contacts, but the fantasy scoring will be roughly identical.

The Chiefs are the 10th best run defense in success rate and third best in limiting yardage after contact. We’ve seen Harris score 16-18 runs four times since the start of November, and I think he’s going for that in this game. He averaged 58 rushing yards in those contests, so it’s really a situation of how lucky you are when it comes to the end zone.

I’m in no hurry to go that direction for a home underdog with a sub-45 total. I have Harris right in the middle of the Jaguars duo as part of an expanded lineup of RBs that I’d rather not play but will probably have to play given the circumstances.

PFN insight into the Chiefs defense

The Chiefs had another above-average game in Week 16, posting a grade of 77.8 against the Texans. Three of this unit’s top six performances came in the last month, putting Steve Spagnuolo’s group near the top 10.

An encouraging sign for the Chiefs? Their ever-improving pass rush.

Kansas City posted its fifth-best non-blitz pressure rate (38.5%) of the season against Houston, a week after its sixth-best against Cleveland. This season, the Chiefs have emerged as a slightly above-average pressure unit (14th in non-blitz pressure rate), although there has been much controversy surrounding the lack of supportive pass rushers alongside Chris Jones.

Kansas City’s positive turnover luck also continued as the Chiefs forced two more takeaways against the Texans. That gives KC eight takeaways in the last two games, after just ten takeaways in the first 13 games combined. Only two of those takeaways involved pressure, so the Chiefs actually have room for growth in this category, even if they can’t rely on averaging four takeaways per game over a sustained period of time.

Bosses at Steelers Trends and Insights

Kansas City Chiefs

Team: The Chiefs are one of 32 teams in the NFL (3.1%) to account for 13.3% of the five-game winning streaks since the start of 2022.

QB: Patrick Mahomes recorded the longest touchdown run of his career (15 yards) on Saturday and now has a carry of more than 10 yards in three straight games for the first time in the regular season since Weeks 1-4 last year.

Attack: Saturday marked the third time this season that they averaged 3+ points per drive (there were also three such games last regular season).

Defense: Kansas City has allowed fewer than 20 points in four straight games, its third-longest streak since 2016.

Fantasy: Things have been tough for Isiah Pacheco lately, but it hasn’t all been his fault – 0.44 yards per carry before contact in his last three games.

Betting: Since 2022, the Unders are 8-1 when the Chiefs play on short rest.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Team: From Week 9 of 2022 to Week 2 of this season, the Steelers had a losing streak – they’ve had two since then.

QB: George Pickens missed three straight games, and in those contests Russell Wilson was 10 of 26 with a touchdown and an interception when pressured (two games earlier: 14 of 24 with three pointers and zero picks).

Attack: Pittsburgh has turned the ball over in 7.2% of its home games this season (away: 9.1%).

Defense: The Steelers have allowed 7.7 yards per pass since Week 12 (Weeks 1-11: 6.9). They are 8-0 this season when allowing fewer than 29 yards per drive (2-5 otherwise).

Fantasy: Najee Harris has yet to reach 45 rushing yards in a loss this season and has just seven receiving yards (two scores) in his last three games.

Betting: Since 2005, the Steelers are 8-1 ATS (9-0 overall with a +130 point differential) in a short week in Week 15 or later.
