Major status update for Georgia Tech star QB

One of the unique challenges that Georgia Tech presents is that they have started using two QBs. The saying goes: If you have two QBs, you don’t really have any, but that may not be the case at Georgia Tech.

The Yellow Jackets have started using two quarterbacks to keep opposing defenses on their toes, and they’ve been doing it very effectively of late. The two QBs for Georgia Tech are unique in that one is used more as a runner and the other is used more as a passer. However, one of their quarterbacks may be out for an unusual reason during today’s rivalry game.

A player in college football can play in four games and still be redshirted, so that year will not count toward his eligibility. And that’s exactly where Georgia Tech QB Aaron Philo currently sits with one game to go.

Philo played in four games in his first season, and although he has been extremely effective recently, the Yellow Jackets team could decide to sit him in order to remain eligible for a season.

This would make life a lot easier for Georgia football and Kirby Smart as all they would have to do now is be ready to face a QB on Friday night. And it just so happens that Philo is playing the best ball of his career, so it would be nice not to have to play against him.

Last week, when Georgia Tech beat NC State, Philo completed 19 of 33 passes for 265 yards. The week before, he rushed for three yards for 65 yards and a touchdown in the Yellow Jackets’ upset win over Miami (FL).

Now none of these teams are on the same level as Georgia’s defense, but that still shows how well Philo played. Hopefully Georgia Tech decides to sit him because it would greatly increase UGA’s chances of winning this game.
