Former Hawkeye Jamie Cavey Lang has died at the age of 41

Jamie Cavey Lang, who played for the Iowa Hawkeyes from 2001 to 2005 and later covered women’s basketball games on the radio, died this weekend after battling cancer, the school said. Cavey Lang was 41 years old. She played a total of 115 games for the Hawkeyes, reaching the NCAA tournament in 2002 as a freshman and in 2004 as a junior. As a junior, she averaged a career-best 16.8 points per game, good for sixth in the Big Ten. Her 7.1 rebounds per game in her senior season were good for seventh in the conference. She was selected All-Big Ten as a junior and senior. She later served as a color commentator with Rob Brooks for Iowa women’s basketball radio broadcasts. In a Facebook post, the Iowa women’s basketball program wrote, “The voice of our favorite memories. “Jamie brought joy” to everything she encountered. She was an All-B1G competitor and an enthusiastic and entertaining color analyst. More importantly, she was an incredible friend and mother. Rest in peace, Jamie Cavey Lang. We are forever grateful that you are part of the Hawkeye family. According to her obituary, she is survived by her husband Mike, their three children Vincent, Bennett and Sydney, and her parents Patrick and Pam Cavey. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 26, at Celebration Farm, 4696 Robin Woods Lane NE, Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 27, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Solon.
