Week 17 NFL Power Rankings

Week 17 NFL Power Rankings

Christmas, Hanukkah, Toyotathon. No matter how you celebrate, the holiday season is here and that means we’re just two weeks away from the playoffs. With two weeks left in the season, we’ve got a little more to fight for than expected and it’s sure to be a wild finish that will change some teams’ futures. Let’s take a look at this week’s power rankings below.

  1. Detroit Lions (LW: 3) – The best season in franchise history was set in stone when they won 13 games for the first time. Wasting such a fun fumble against the Bears seems strange (but great).

  2. Buffalo Bills (1) – Their streak of 30-point games ended and Josh Allen walked away banged up. But assuming all is well on that front, the AFC should still be wary of a playoff game at Highmark Stadium.

  3. Philadelphia Eagles (2) – They lost their outside edge against the NFC’s top seed, but remain a team no one is excited about in January.

  4. Kansas City Chiefs (5) – Between the return of Hollywood Brown and the miraculous recovery of Patrick Mahomes, it really feels like this team is about to shift into a new gear. As always.

  5. Green Bay Packers (4) – Some say the city of New Orleans will be feeling the effects of Josh Jacobs’ stiff arms for weeks to come.

  6. Minnesota Vikings (6) – They kept it a little close against Seattle, but with two weeks left, they have their fate for the No. 1 seed under control.

  7. Baltimore Ravens (7) – Dominant performance to confirm who is the frontrunner in the North. Lamar closed the MVP gap this week. Could a Christmas miracle bring him the honor?

  8. Los Angeles Rams (9) – Holding the Jets to 9 points may not be a huge accomplishment, but this defense looks competent as the season ends.

  9. Washington Commanders (15) – After decades of playing Heinicke-level signal callers against the Eagles, I doubt Commanders fans will feel too bad about taking one from Kenny Pickett.

  10. Pittsburgh Steelers (8) – The only present on this team’s Christmas wish list is a healthy George Pickens.

  11. Los Angeles Chargers (11) – In hindsight, it was always going to be a Harbaugh to break the 48-year fair catch-kick drought.

  12. Denver Broncos (12) – Saturday against the Bengals is this team’s biggest game in years. Time to see what Bo Nix and Co. do. really consist of.

  13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (10) – Oh how one night can change a mood. The Bucs are no longer in full control of the division after a disastrous loss to the Cowboys. Still, they’re the favorites here as the Falcons start rookie quarterback Michael Penix.

  14. Seattle Seahawks (13) – The Seahawks’ late-game blunders likely cost them a playoff spot; further proof of how quickly fortunes change in the NFL.

  15. Houston Texans (14) – Without Tank Dell and with Stefon Diggs already sidelined, this already difficult passing game will have to work hard to make big plays.

  16. Cincinnati Bengals (17) – Well, here they are! Everything has been falling into place for the Bengals over the last few weeks, and if they win, they’ll have a solid shot at a playoff spot.

  17. Dallas Cowboys (19) – Hats off to Mike McCarthy. This team has no business being cocky right now, and yet they’re 4-1 after a 3-7 start. One heck of a labor saving effort.

  18. Indianapolis Colts (20) – Jonathan Taylor, take a bow. If the Colts are going this well, don’t be surprised to find them in the playoffs in two weeks.

  19. Miami Dolphins (21) – The weather was nice on Sunday, so the Dolphins won. It’s that simple! On defense, Chop Robinson is already one of the best passers in the league as a rookie.

  20. Atlanta Falcons (22) – The Falcons must beat the Commanders and Panthers to secure the division title. There’s no guarantee, but it’s the best spot you can find after testing out your expensive free-agent acquisition for a rookie.

  21. San Francisco 49ers (18) – In a terrible season with nothing to celebrate, attention now turns to Brock Purdy’s extension this offseason.

  22. Arizona Cardinals (16) – A loss like this to the Panthers is a telltale sign of a team that simply gave up and gave it their all.

  23. Carolina Panthers (24) – Dave Canales could really be a QB whisperer. He’s pitted Bryce Young and this team against each other in every game since the bye. What a victory.

  24. Chicago Bears (23) – Caleb Williams continues to take care of the ball. That might be the only positive in a disastrous year that has left head coach candidates thinking twice about joining the circus.

  25. New York Jets (25) – Another absolutely cracking performance after taking an early lead. I’m not sure anyone in this organization knows what changes lie ahead.

  26. New England Patriots (26) – A seven-game losing streak to close out the season will make the calls for Jerod Mayo’s job even louder, but some fight and continued improvement from Drake Maye will likely protect this staff.

  27. Cleveland Browns (27) – The decision to form DTR was predictably a disaster. It’s like pulling a lever that instantly breaks in half. Of all the Browns, Miles Garrett deserves better right now.

  28. Las Vegas Raiders (31) – Sunday’s win over the Jags ended a 10-game losing streak and left the Raiders out of the running for a top QB in the draft. With no clear talent at the top, this could be a blessing in disguise.

  29. Jacksonville Jaguars (28) – The only potential downside to selecting Brian Thomas Jr. is that Trent Baalke may survive another year.

  30. New Orleans Saints (30) – A shutout for the Saints with Spencer Rattler at the helm is definitely to be expected. What hurts most is that this team is going to do it all again.

  31. Tennessee Titans (29) – Giving up over 300 rushing yards and throwing three picks is a new level of bad for this Tennessee team that leads the league in giveaways.

  32. New York Giants (32) – However, the Giants have their choice of QBs with the top pick. However, it will take a lot more than Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward to fix this mess.

That’s all for our Week 17 Power Rankings! We wish you safe and happy holidays and enjoy a week of uninterrupted football. We’ll be back next week to evaluate each team ahead of the final week of the season.
