Teddy Bridgewater: “‘Great for the position’: Dan Campbell explains why Teddy Bridgewater’s return is game-changing for the Lions” | NFL News

The Detroit Lions are turning heads in the NFL and this latest move is an interesting addition to their season. The Lions have brought retirees on board experienced quarterback Teddy Bridgewater with the 13-2 Lions at just the right time to advance their playoff push. Coach Dan Campbell didn’t have time to explain how this could be a masterstroke.

A veteran presence in the locker room

Shortly after the signing he said: Campbell shared his excitement about bringing Bridgewater back into the fold. “I have been in contact with Teddy for some time and it was always a possibility,” Campbell said.
He emphasized the value he brings: “The opportunity to bring back someone here who has experience, who stays in shape, who has thrown… It just brings a level of professionalism, veteran presence, someone who is great for our team. “He’s great for the job.”

But lately, the NFL experience of these years may show more than just a single player’s ability in that area – and a quiet energy coming off the bench as the Lions march toward what could be their first Super Bowl appearance.

From high school coach to NFL comeback

Bridgewater had a very active year off the field. After retiring from the NFL at the end of the 2023 season, he became head coach at Miami Northwesthis alma mater. One season he led the team to a Florida Class 3A state championship.
Campbell didn’t hesitate to heap praise on Bridgewater’s success. “It’s unbelievable what he’s done at Miami Northwestern,” he said. “Winning a championship shows the type of mindset and determination Teddy brings to everything he does.”

Why now?

It wasn’t an impulsive decision for Bridgewater. In fact, just last week, the quarterback hinted that he was considering a return to the NFL. Joining a playoff team like the Lions, who are atop the NFC North and eyeing the conference’s No. 1 seed, seems like the perfect opportunity.
“It’s a smart move on Teddy’s part,” Campbell admitted. And with Jared Goff Leader and rookie Hendon Hooker Bridgewater is developing in the starting blocks, adding depth and security to a Lions squad that is on the verge of greatness.

What’s next for the Lions?

That means the Lions are preparing for an intense postseason and adding Bridgewater will only increase their chances. Whether on the field or on the sidelines as a stabilizing presence, Bridgewater’s experience and leadership could prove to be the final piece of the puzzle for Detroit to finally bring home the Super Bowl.
