OpenAI repairs ChatGBT and other applications after a crash

OpenAI is working to resolve an issue that caused major outages in its applications, including ChatGBT.

In a statement from the artificial intelligence (AI) company posted on the social media platform shortly after 4 p.m. on Thursday

A bug status page shows that OpenAI identified and began investigating an issue with high error rates in ChatGPT, the API, and Sora at 2 p.m.

According to OpenAI, the problem was caused by an upstream provider, which is a company that connects a local Internet service provider’s network to the Internet.

Two additional updates at 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. noted that OpenAI “continues to work on a resolution to the issue.”

As of 6:30 p.m., ChatGPT and the APIs were partially restored and Sora was fully functional.

“We are sorry for the distress this may cause,” the company wrote. “We identified the problem and began the restoration process. We hope to be back as soon as possible.”

Users around the world used X to comment on the outages. Some noted that the crash affected their ability to conduct research and complete school or work tasks.

An OpenAI spokesperson referred FOX Business to the statement on Thursday and declined to provide further comment on the outages.
