Panthers WR Xavier Legette presents cooked raccoon in the locker room

In one of the strangest moments of the 2024 NFL season and league history, it was revealed that Carolina Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette was known for eating boiled raccoons. Although the strange food caused confusion for many, Legette decided to double down on the viral video and bring actual cooked raccoon, which he apparently wants to eat.

Legette was shown in the locker room by a video from Panthers beat writer Sheena Quick showing cooked raccoon in a container. Although Legette initially describes peppers and onions as “exotic,” he brings out the raccoon meat for the players to try.

“Coon is normal for me. “I’ve been eating this since I was a child,” says Legette.

Many reporters asked Legette to demonstrate the container of cooked raccoon, and Legette initially laughed at the idea. However, it does give an insight into what the cooked meat looks like. This, of course, leads to reporters questioning the taste of the meat.

As previously mentioned, Legette went viral in the 2024 season for appearing on the “St. Brown Podcast” admitted that he eats raccoons, including on Thanksgiving.

The Panthers receiver told Amon-Ra St. Brown and his brother Equanimeous St. Brown that he eats raccoons. At first the brothers think that Legette is joking, but he explains that he skins and eats them.

“Like a raccoon you see in the trash can.” he said. “I hunt it. I’m killing it. I skin it. Cook it. Eat it. All that.”

There are many players in the NFL whose eating habits people would find strange. For example, former Seattle Seahawks legend Marshawn Lynch often ate bags of Skittles during games.

Legette sent the internet into a frenzy with his confession to eating raccoons, and now he’s brought cooked raccoons into the locker room. Although many probably believed that he somehow made his dietary choice, the Panthers receiver decided to prove to everyone that he actually eats the animal.

Legette has rushed for 439 yards and four touchdowns through the first 15 games of the season. He was drafted 32nd overall by the Panthers out of South Carolina in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Legette has shown some solid skills this season and will likely play an even bigger role in his second year. For now, he will go down in history as a rookie in the NFL with one of the strangest eating habits.
