The Lakers are reportedly trading D’Angelo Russell and Jalen Hood-Schifino in “active” trade discussions

The Los Angeles Lakers are once again front and center in early trade talks, and that’s no surprise. This is a franchise that never stands still, especially when it feels like there’s still ground to gain in a fiercely competitive Western Conference.

According to NBA insider Evan Sidery, the Lakers have been one of the most active teams in exploring possible deals, with the expiring contracts of D’Angelo Russell and rookie Jalen Hood-Schifino at the center of discussions.

Russell in particular is causing a stir in the league. His expiring $18.7 million contract is a valuable trade asset, especially for teams looking to clear cap space or add a scorer.

While Russell has been productive at times, the Lakers appear open to reshaping their backcourt, especially if that means adding complementary pieces around LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Meanwhile, Hood-Schifino offers interesting intrigue as a young prospect, although his inconsistency currently may be hurting his trade value.

The Lakers have every reason to be aggressive. The clock is always ticking when you’re operating in LeBron’s championship window, and their roster, while solid, still has holes.

Whether it’s another perimeter shooter, a reliable big man or a defensive stopper, Los Angeles could use reinforcements to solidify its place among the West’s elite.

With the February trade deadline not too far away, we can expect the Lakers to continue to be at the center of the rumor mill. GM Rob Pelinka has shown a willingness to make bold moves, and with a mix of expiring contracts, young players and future draft picks at his disposal, the Lakers are positioned to make a splash if the offers the right opportunity.

As always with this franchise, it’s not a matter of if they do something, but a matter of when.
