Seahawks-Bears betting preview (odds, lines, best bets)

Game overview

The Bears’ catastrophic decline continues after their third straight defeat since parting ways with head coach Matt Eberflus – and their ninth defeat in a row. Since the start of December, the Bears have failed to cover three straight times, losing by three or more points each time and maintaining a -43.5 point lead against the spread.

Since Chicago named Thomas Brown as interim head coach, the squad has failed to respond with inspired play on both sides of the ball, posting a bottom-five EPA per game on offense (29th) and defense (32nd).

On the other hand, the Seahawks are clinging to their playoff ambitions, which continue to dwindle with every passing defeat. After four straight games, Seattle dropped its final two home games and is now heading toward salvaging its postseason hopes.

While the Seahawks have a 4-1-1 road record this season, only one of those matchups was a favorite: their Week 2 game at New England, which ended with an improvement in 3-point margin.

A win in this game coupled with a loss for the Rams would clear Seattle’s path to the postseason, which includes a winner-take-all matchup against Los Angeles in Week 18.

QB Geno Smith, Seattle Seahawks: Under 34.5 pass attempts (-108)

Although Smith ranks fourth in pass attempts this season and had 43 pass attempts in last week’s shootout against Minnesota, this team’s focus in recent weeks hasn’t been high pass volume. Since returning from their Week 10 bye, the Seahawks rank 14th in passing percentage (64.4%), below their top-three numbers before the break. In the six games following the bye, Smith has only surpassed 34 attempts once.

Given their obviously ineffective approach to offensive production, the Bears don’t pose much of a threat to keep the score competitive. With the game script aiming for Seattle to get a sizable lead, expect the running game to take center stage to fill the clock.
