“This is the last straw that breaks the camel’s back”

“This is the last straw that breaks the camel’s back”

Playboi Carti’s fans recently started a petition to ban the rapper from all music platforms due to unreleased music. On Thursday, December 26, 2024, fans started a Change.org petition stating:

“(He) has repeatedly deceived and disappointed his loyal fan base by making empty promises about album releases.”

The petition called for accountability and continued:

“This petition calls for him to be banned from all music platforms until he keeps his promises and shows a true commitment to his fan base. If artists cannot maintain the trust of their listeners, they should not be allowed to profit from their loyalty.”

Playboi Carti aka Jordan Terrell Carter has dropped his last studio project, Lots of red, in December 2020. It was delayed for two years due to leaked songs.

According to an article from Hip Hop DX, Playboi Carti shared the words “I AM MUSIC” on his Instagram Stories last December, hinting at a new album that might be released in 2024.

However, as the year comes to an end, the album remains unreleased.

When news of the petition went viral, netizens were quick to react. One claimed:

“This is the final straw that breaks the camel’s back.”

Some came to Playboi Carti’s defense, urging users to give the rapper space and work at his own pace.

“He doesn’t owe y’all anything, just listen to other artists,” one wrote.

“You guys will do this, I will definitely continue to follow this album and wait patiently for it,” noted another.

“Too bad it’s not that serious that artists can live and give their art whenever they want,” commented one fan.

Others continued to rail against the rapper and called on him to boycott his music.

“Is he even a rapper at this point? Can we call him one? The guy cancels his concerts/festival appearances and he’s not dropping the music. I think those are the two things that would make you a rapper, right?” one asked.

“As a Carti fan, I can get behind this,” another added.

“It’s crazy that it wasn’t his terrible music or his domestic abuse, it was that they didn’t get *more* music that sucks,” one user noted.

“Shows a lack of respect for his fans’ time and support” – Petition criticizes Playboi Carti for deceiving fans

According to the Change.org petition, the campaign currently has nearly 1,800 signatures. It explained that instead of releasing it I am music, Playboi Carti shared “snippets, posted random tracks on YouTube and Instagram, and failed to deliver the promised album.”

It went on to say that December 27th was the last Friday of the year and “the traditional release day for new music”. However, there is no official word on the project’s release.

“This repeated cycle of unfulfilled commitments shows a lack of respect for his fans’ time and support,” the petition reads.

According to a report in XXL Magazine, on December 25th, the four-year anniversary of Playboi Carti’s last album, Lots of red, Frustrated fans have reportedly launched a website (iammusic2024.com) detailing every unfulfilled update from the rapper.

These included rumors about a Lots of red Deluxe album, song excerpts, tour or performance delays and even audio updates.

It should be noted that Playboi Carti premiered new music from the album during Rolling Loud: Miami (December 15). According to an article by Uproxx, he performed five new songs: Walk, Cocaine nose, crush, drugs made me deaf, And Lie.

Recently, several fans took to social media to launch a “mass unfollow” of the rapper if he doesn’t release his new album.

However, internet personality DJ Akademiks claimed during his recent Twitch livestream that the album would be “absolutely coming out soon.”

Playboi Carti has not publicly responded to the petition nor claimed she is being unfollowed en masse.
