Blazers easily beat Kings, 115-106

After a convincing 115:106 victory over the Sacramento Kings, the Portland Trail Blazers are 2-1 in the NBA Cup. Every Blazers starter scored in double figures while the Kings looked confused. Keegan Murray outscored his brother Kris by 1 point, with Kris only scoring 2 points. The game wasn’t as close as the final result suggests. Let’s dive in.

Blazer of the Game: Deandre Ayton. A difficult decision tonight as the entire starting eleven deserved this honor. Ayton held the paint, a key to today’s victory. He almost achieved a double-double with 26 points and 9 rebounds. But this was really a team win.

Status of the night: points in color. Neither team shot well from three balls, but Portland made up for it with inspired paint play. They outscored Sacramento 64-34.

What we will remember: The Blazers are superior to the Kings. Sacramento, also under .500, hasn’t played well all season and, like Portland, has been undermanned. And then Kevin Heurter left with an ankle injury in the first half. But the Kings were out of form all night, and combined with Portland’s aggressive defense, the game was never in doubt as the Blazers took the lead in the third quarter.

What’s next: A day off and a game with the Mavs. Dallas comes to a game on Sunday night and it is unclear whether Luka Doncic will play. In the meantime, stay tuned for more coverage of tonight’s game, including an on-site report from Conor Bergin.
