The suspect sneaked onto the Delta flight at SEA Airport before being arrested

The person managed to get through a TSA security checkpoint on Monday.

SEATAC, Wash. – A person was arrested after he was able to board a Delta flight without a ticket at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Christmas Eve.

Port of Seattle Police were dispatched to Gate B1 for a report of a suspicious incident on Delta Flight 487 around 1 p.m. A person without a ticket was spotted as the Airbus A321neo aircraft taxied.

When the plane returned to the terminal, the unknown person exited the plane. According to the Port of Seattle, they were later found in a restroom and arrested for trespassing.

Police searched the plane and all areas of the terminal that the person had entered. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) rescreened all passengers.

The person managed to get through a TSA security checkpoint on Monday. According to TSA, the person went through standard screening but skipped the identity check and boarding station. The person boarded the Delta flight to Honolulu on Tuesday without a passport, the airline confirmed.

“This is one of those situations where you almost have to use accident investigation techniques and say, ‘First of all, there’s never just one cause.’ There are several reasons for this,” said former commercial pilot and aviation analyst John Nance. “It’s probably not just a little careless inattention, but it could be training, compliance, all of the above.”

The TSA said it would independently review the incident.

The port said it would work with airlines and the TSA regarding the incident.

“Congress and the industry’s demands will certainly be closely examined. But there will be no one paying more attention than the airlines themselves,” Nance said.

According to Delta, the flight was delayed two hours and 15 minutes. On Tuesday at 3 p.m. we went to Honolulu.

“Because there is nothing more important than safety and security, Delta employees followed procedures to remove a ticketless passenger from the flight and then arrest them,” Delta said in a statement. “We apologize to our customers for the delay in their journey and thank them for their patience and cooperation.”
