Chargers playoff rankings, decision-making scenario updates

The Los Angeles Chargers took care of business on Saturday, handily defeating the New England Patriots 40-7. The Chargers needed to win to get in after securing their second playoff berth in the last three seasons. Their first year under head coach Jim Harbaugh couldn’t have gone better as the Chargers are now locked in for January football.

With their win in Week 17, the Chargers officially secured the sixth seed in the AFC. The teams ahead of them are, in order: Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens, Houston Texans and the Pittsburgh Steelers. If the season ended today, the Chargers would travel to Baltimore for a rematch with the Ravens.

However, with a win over the Raiders in the Finals and a loss to the Steelers next week, the Chargers could still move up to fifth place.

After that, the seventh seeding list will still be decided. After the rival Denver Broncos lost to the Cincinnati Bengals, they need to win in Week 18 to secure a spot in the playoffs. The Broncos, Bengals, Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins are all fighting for a playoff spot.

All the Chargers need to do is get through Week 18 injury-free and prepare for their Wild Card matchup.
