Top performers from the second round of the playoffs

Houston County QB Antwann Hill Jr. – The Mr. Georgia finalist continues to put up impressive performances and it was much the same on Friday night in a stunning 63-12 win over Lakeside-Evans. Hill was 17 of 20 passing for 440 yards and six touchdowns. Hill already set a team record for touchdown passes, surpassing Jake Fromm’s record in the first-round win over Clarke Central. He completed 85% of his passes and continues to extend the program record for most passing touchdowns. His numbers this year are astronomical. Hill Jr has thrown for 3,626 yards and 44 touchdowns. The 44 touchdowns are a career high in a season for Hill Jr. He now has two seasons in his career in which he has thrown for 3,000 yards and 40 touchdowns, continuing to make a name for himself as one of the best passers in the state of Georgia. The Memphis effort is something special and proves with every game what a true rarity it is.

Lee County QB Weston Bryan – Georgia Southern’s team has been impressive for the Trojans this season, putting up another dominant performance. He completed 11 of 16 passes for 213 yards and five touchdowns in Friday’s win over East Paulding. On the ground, he rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns. He has 54 total touchdowns this season (28 rushing, 26 passing). Bryan has been a threat this season with his legs and arm and has made the defense pay off. He is the leader of the remaining offense in the playoffs, averaging 54.3 points per game. Lee County has a legitimate chance to win a state championship. This is not only due to Mr. Georgia finalist Ousmane Kromah, but also due to the growth and development of Bryan this season. He was spectacular and provided accurate defense in every game.

Coffee RB Tyrese Woodgett – Woodgett put together another stunning performance for the defending state champion Coffee Trojans with a win against Brunswick. He passed for 217 yards and five touchdowns. Woodgett is averaging 135 yards per game and is playing his best football of late. He has consecutive games with 200 or more rushing yards in the first two rounds. During those two games, he had 417 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. Friday’s win over Brunswick was his fourth game this season in which he rushed for over 200 yards in a game. His most impressive game this season came against Gadsden County (FL), where he threw for a season-high 278 yards and two touchdowns.

Cambridge RB Tyler Blalock – In another impressive victory for the Cambridge Bears over Central-Carrollton, Blalock rushed for 176 yards and two touchdowns. He is now just two yards away from a 1,000-yard season. He has also scored 15 touchdowns this season. Blalock now has six games of 100 yards or more and six multi-TD games this year. He is often overlooked in this explosive Bears offense, but has been a consistent figure in the running game all season. The Bears offense wouldn’t be as good without the balance and big plays that Cambridge provides.

Milton RB TJ Lester – One of the most underrated running backs in the country had another great performance for the Milton Eagles last Friday. Lester rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. He averaged 12.2 yards per rush. What’s very much lost in this dominant run by the Eagles is how good they’ve been on the ground this season. Lester has passed for 1,314 yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground this season. He has had seven games with more than 100 yards rushing. Lester also has seven games in which he scored two or more touchdowns rushing. To put it simply: Lester should be on more college radars than him. He can play with some of the best in the country, catch out of the backfield, and is also a great pass protector. He can do everything you need from a running back at the next level.

West Forsyth RB Foster Orris – It was another productive season for the senior running back, who set career highs in rushing yards and touchdowns for the Wolverines this season. In a second-round win over Archer, Orris rushed for 146 yards and three touchdowns. In the first two games of the playoffs, he had 274 rushing yards and five touchdowns. Friday marked the fourth straight game in which he had rushed for 100 yards. He has been dangerous for the Wolverines this season and is seeing more and more touches as the playoffs progress. He will be one to watch in this week’s quarterfinal game against Douglas County.

Carver-Atlanta ATH Terrible favors – Favors did everything he could to lead his team to victory over Appling County. He had a kickoff return for a touchdown and also a receiving touchdown in the loss. Before the game, he was the Panthers’ leading receiver with 36 catches for 811 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also had 363 yards on kick and punt returns this season. Favors is one of those players that you just have to put the ball in his hands and let him cook. Carver-Atlanta did that and benefited from it, getting a special season from Favors in return. Favors will be one to watch as the 2025 season begins and will likely be a heavily recruited player very soon.

Houston County WR Isaiah “Bull” Mitchell- What a season it has been for the senior wide receiver. In a stunning win over Lakeside-Evans, he torched the defense for 269 receiving yards and three touchdowns, marking his eighth game this season with more than 100 receiving yards. Mitchell has scored a touchdown in every game except against Coffee. He is just 10 shy of 100 catches this season. In 2024, Mitchell has 90 catches for 1,661 yards and 19 touchdowns. Mitchell has been a consistent threat in the receiving game this year and has been a sought-after receiver for Houston County. The Cincinnati commit also has four passing touchdowns this season. The Bears have used Mitchell in a variety of ways this season and each time he has made big plays and made the defense pay off.

North Gwinnett Safety Malekhi Weedon Weedon had seven tackles and two interceptions in a 24-10 win over Newton. Weedon has been a force at the safety point for the Bulldogs this season and has 72 tackles (third on the team). Weedon also has six pass deflections, five interceptions and two fumble recoveries. He has been one of the best defensive players for North Gwinnett this season in a star-studded class that includes Cole Funderburk, Braxton Kyle, Jake Godfree and Chandler Jordan. That’s saying something. Arkansas State’s effort has continued to improve each year and the Bulldogs are in contention for a state championship.

Blessed Trinity Kicker Noah Godhard In a game where points were at stake, Godhard performed well for his team. He went 5 of 5 on his field goal attempts and threw kicks of 47, 42, 37, 36 and 35. He was reliable in Blessed Trinity’s win over Jonesboro as the Titans only scored one touchdown that night. Godhard came in and delivered an outstanding performance. For the season he is 16 of 19 for 47 yards. He also has touchbacks on 46 of 62 kickoffs this year. Godhard is one of the state’s leaders in field goals made this season. Blessed Trinity is already contending for the state title, but they have another weapon they can use to come through when the offense struggles.
