Need shopping inspiration for Small Business Saturday? Here are 6 events in the greater Detroit area

As consumers prepare for one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year, small businesses in Michigan are offering a variety of events and markets to capture some of the holiday excitement on Small Business Saturday.

According to the Michigan Retailers Association, Small Business Saturday was the second-highest sales volume day in Michigan last year, behind Black Friday.

However, only 23% of U.S. adults say they plan to do their holiday shopping at small businesses this year, followed by destinations such as online (57%), department stores, grocery stores, discount stores and clothing stores, according to the National survey Retail Federation found.

For those shoppers looking for ways to support local businesses this holiday shopping weekend, the Detroit Free Press has compiled Saturday shopping events themed “Small Business Saturday.” All take place in Detroit, except for the final event at The Rind in Berkley.

The details: More than 20 vendors will be at Fantazma Market & Cafe and clothing, accessories, food and art at the Detroit Hispanic Development Corp. offering, hosted by Fantazma Market & Cafe in collaboration with the Corktown and Southwest Detroit Business Associations. There will also be live performances and opportunities to take photos with Santa throughout the day.

What you should know: Admission to the event, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., is free. Parking is available near Fantazma Market & Cafe. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., free shuttle buses will run between southwest Detroit and Corktown, where participants can visit area stores and the Christmas pop-up shops at Michigan Central Station. Fantazma Market & Café is located at 1211 Trumbull St.

The details: A dozen local businesses will have pop-up shops at Grandmont Rosedale Development Corp.’s Holidays on Grand River. have. There will also be food trucks offering everything from cinnamon treats to seafood and lemonade, a holiday-themed reading and poetry at 3 p.m., a live musical performance at 5 p.m., and a lighting ceremony at 6 p.m of the Christmas tree
