NFL playoff picture, draft order after Sunday’s early Week 17 games: The Colts are down, the Eagles win the NFC East and, uh, oh, the Seahawks

After the first set of Week 17 games on Sunday, here’s what we know: The Philadelphia Eagles are NFC East champions, the Indianapolis Colts are out of the AFC playoff race and the Los Angeles Rams are the NFC West crown another step closer.

The Eagles became the first team in the NFC to win a division title after defeating the rival Dallas Cowboys. They have little chance of securing the top spot in the conference standings, as the Lions would have to lose their last two games of the regular season (against San Francisco and Minnesota) and the Vikings would have to go 1-1 or 0-1 -1 in the last two games of the season (against Green Bay and Detroit).

Also in the NFC, the Los Angeles Rams can close out the NFC West via the win strength tiebreaker against the Seattle Seahawks after defeating the Arizona Cardinals 13-9 on Saturday evening. The Rams can do this with 1.5 or more wins in Week 17 at the hands of Minnesota (vs. Green Bay), San Francisco (vs. Detroit on Monday night), Washington (vs. Atlanta) or Cleveland (vs. Miami).

Meanwhile, in the AFC, six of the seven playoff spots are up for grabs, and one of them won’t be the Colts, who lost at the New York Giants on Sunday. The loss knocked them out of the postseason race.

The Kansas City Chiefs secured first place in the conference with a 29-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday. The Los Angeles Chargers joined the postseason party with a 40-7 victory over the New England Patriots on Saturday afternoon. And the Cincinnati Bengals avoided elimination by beating the Denver Broncos in overtime on Saturday night.

The Broncos missed the chance to secure a spot in the playoffs with a win or draw at the Bengals. It would have been their first time in the postseason since winning Super Bowl 50. They will finish the regular season against the Chiefs, who don’t have much to play for since the No. 1 seed is already secured.

To clinch the final postseason wild-card ticket, the Bengals must win their regular season finale against the Steelers, the Broncos must lose to the Chiefs and the Dolphins must lose another game (they face the Browns on Sunday and close the game away). the season vs. the Jets).

The NFC North title is open and falls to the Lions and Vikings. The 13-2 Lions will get their first chance to clinch the division title should the Vikings lose to the Packers on Sunday afternoon and Detroit beat San Francisco on Monday night.

The Commanders can ensure their return to the playoffs for the first time since winning the division in 2020 if they win or draw against the Falcons.

Speaking of the Falcons, they could win the NFC South if they beat the Commanders and the Panthers beat the Buccaneers.
