North Carolina state lawmakers paid homage on the occasion of the death of former President Jimmy Carter

North Carolina lawmakers release statements reacting to the death of former President Jimmy Carter on December 29th.

According to his son, Carter, the oldest living US president ever, has been confirmed to have died at his home in Plains, Georgia.

Carter was elected president in 1976 as the 39th president. After his one-term presidency, he won a Nobel Peace Prize for his diplomatic work through the Carter Center, a nonprofit organization that aims to “prevent and resolve conflict, strengthen freedom and democracy, and improve health,” it says in the message his website.

“Today we lost an icon who was the epitome of what it means to be a true public servant in and out of office. In a political world full of hatred and bombast, President Carter was a kind, quiet, generous and sincere man of faith.” “Well done, good and faithful servant,” wrote Governor Roy Cooper.

“President Carter will be remembered for his passion for helping people in need, his strong and unwavering faith and his commitment to public service,” he said Senator Tom Tillis. “Susan and I extend our deepest condolences and prayers to the entire Carter family.”

“Former President Jimmy Carter’s life was marked by a core of service, from the U.S. Navy to the presidency to his humanitarian work. “My prayers go out to the Carter family at this difficult time,” wrote Chuck Edwards, U.S. Representative for North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District.

“President Jimmy Carter was a man of principle, a dedicated humanitarian and a true public servant. He represented the best of America: guided by faith and service and committed to the promise of our nation. I send my deepest condolences to his family. May he be remembered be a blessing,” wrote Governor-elect Josh Stein.
