The Redskins logo was edited out of NBC’s “SNF” broadcast during Jayden Daniels’ historic game

NFL fans were outraged when they noticed something important was missing from a graphic used on Sunday Night Football.

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels broke the record for most rushing yards by a rookie QB on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

The NBC broadcast highlighted Daniels’ record-setting night by comparing Jayden to another Washington quarterback: Robert Griffin III, the former record holder.

Daniels’ 820 rushing yards this year surpassed RGIII’s 815 from his rookie season.

But something didn’t seem right in the picture…

The broadcast showed a side-by-side graphic of the two QBs, both of whom happened to play for Washington. The problem is that while Daniels had the Commanders logo behind his image, RGIII had a generic NFL logo behind him.

RGIII was playing for the Washington Redskins when he set the standard in 2012.

NBC may also have edited out the Redskins name from a picture of RGIII in uniform. While the Redskins wore uniforms that did not have the Redskins name emblazoned on the front above the numbers, the uniform used in the broadcast appears to be one that normally bore the name.

Washington beat Atlanta 30-24 in overtime.

Saying or referring to the Redskins was a touchy subject for the NFL

While the image and name may seem uncontroversial to many NFL fans, the league has dug itself into a hole where reference to the Redskins now poses significant problems.

It turns out that giving in to pressure to change the Redskins’ name in 2020 had its own consequences.

The fervor for social justice in 2020 led the NFL to make poor decisions.

Chief among them was Washington’s decision to switch to the “Washington Football Team” in hopes of not offending the people who refused to say “Redskins” for that reason offensive Connection to Native Americans.

In recent years, NFL fans have increasingly pushed to restore the Washington Redskins name and logo, with some acknowledging that the renaming may not have been worth it given the outrage.

NBC did its part and deleted any reference to the Redskins on Sunday night

Even the league has softened its stance on the return of the Washington Redskins. OutKick’s Armando Salguero reported that discussions have taken place about the idea of fully restoring the Redskins logo or at least using it for the club’s merchandise sales, with portions of the proceeds going to tribal causes.

Washington owner Josh Harris was hesitant about returning to the Redskins.

Still, NBC’s lack of a backbone in prime time was clearly evident.

A Redskins fan said, “Did they really censor the name Skins on NBC for the Redskins vs. Falcons game?”, adding, “Really Cmon @SNFonNBC. Really just disappointing #HTTR.”

The network’s cowardly decision didn’t go unnoticed by defiant NFL fans, who quickly took NBC to task for refusing to show the Redskins’ innocuous logo.
