It was about more than just securing a playoff spot.

Washington Commanders safety Jeremy Reaves proposed to his longtime girlfriend Mikaela Worley after the team’s thrilling overtime win over the Atlanta Falcons that clinched a playoff spot on Sunday.

Reaves, 28, rushed to Worley on the sideline at Northwest Stadium in Maryland and knelt to ask the medical assistant to marry him.

Worley, a former volleyball player at the University of Louisiana Monroe, was seen falling to her knees in tears while putting her hands to her face and telling him “yes.”

Reaves’ teammates followed the suggestion and rushed over to the happy couple to celebrate.

Commander Punter Tress Way hugged the pair as fans in the stands above them cheered as they headed toward the locker room.

The security guard said he had had the ring for some time and thought about asking her last week, but decided to wait until after Sunday night’s game.

“That thing burned a hole in my pocket,” Reaves told the Associated Press.

However, he knew that if he got down on one knee, the Commanders would have to win – which made the game even more impressive for the 28-year-old.

“I hate losing, so there was no way I could have done that in the right frame of mind after a loss,” he said.

“If we win this game, it will be fate.”

Reaves said Worley was his “best friend since high school” and supported him through the ups and downs of his football career.

The safety said he knew Worley was the one when she “got through the worst” of him after he suffered a season-ending ACL tear in October 2023.

“She deserves it. I can’t say enough about her. When I was unwell last year, she was there every day to pick me up. She showed up,” Reaves said.

“I went through the worst last year when I tore my cruciate ligament. Couldn’t do anything, couldn’t be my own boss and she was the crutch there when I couldn’t do it myself.”

The former South Alabama star went undrafted as a free agent by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2018 before being released shortly afterward.

Reaves is in his sixth season with the Commanders after being added to their active roster in 2019.

The engagement was the culmination of an exciting night in Maryland.

The Commanders secured a playoff spot for the first time since 2020.

If the Commanders (11-5) win their regular-season finale in Dallas next weekend, they could advance to the NFC’s sixth seed and advance to a wild-card round game at Tampa Bay or the Los Angeles Rams.

Otherwise, they would be seventh and visit division rival Philadelphia unless Green Bay loses to Chicago.
