Jackson State University’s “Sonic Boom of the South” will add another highlight next week.

The JSU band will perform at the 136th Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California on January 1, 2025.

The Rose Parade features flower-bedecked floats and select brass bands and entertainers. The parade is part of the festivities leading up to the Rose Bowl football game. The 2025 Rose Bowl will host one of the quarterfinal games between Ohio State and Oregon in the expanded College Football Playoff.

However, the parade actually predates the bowl game. The first Rose Parade was held in 1890, while the bowl game did not begin until 1902 in a contest between Michigan and Stanford.
