Linda Lavin Said Her Career Was ‘Fluid’ Weeks Before Her Death (Exclusive)

Linda Lavin spoke about her “fluid” career just three weeks before her death.

The actress, who died on Sunday, December 29, at age 87, spoke to PEOPLE during the Netflix premiere Not a good deed on December 4, 25 days before her death, in Los Angeles, where she was asked if she wanted to do more in Hollywood lately.

“That’s pretty much where the career is right now,” said Lavin, who played neighbor Phyllis Not a good deed. “And I did a play off-Broadway in New York a few years ago, almost two years ago, and it was a limited run, which I enjoy.”

Um Not a good deedThe Tony Award winner added: “The medium doesn’t matter to me. If it had been a play I would have said yes, but I would still have wanted a limited edition.”

During the premiere, Lavin also reflected on finding inspiration for her roles from her everyday life, telling PEOPLE, “As an actress, I like to show myself through the character.”

“I have a wonderful life, a wonderful husband (Steve Bakunas) standing over there and I have a very rich and full life and I’m happy to be here. I’m thrilled to be here at this time in my life. “I’m really grateful,” he said Alice Alum added.

PEOPLE confirmed Lavin’s death on Sunday. Her representative said in a statement that she “died unexpectedly due to complications from recently discovered lung cancer.”

The actress began appearing on Broadway in the ’60s and won a Tony in 1987 Broadway boundwhile continuing to appear on television and in film. Just a few weeks before her death, Lavin had both been courting Not a good deed and filming her upcoming Hulu series Mid-Century Modern.

After the news of Lavin’s death, Not a good deedLiz Feldman, the series’ creator and showrunner, posted a sweet tribute to the actress on Instagram.

“Oh sweet, brilliant, talented, beautiful @linda_lavin 🩷,” Feldman, 47, began. “It was an honor and a pleasure to have the opportunity to work with you. I loved writing for you.” 9JKL All those years ago. I just loved YOU. Be near you. In your magnetic orbit.

She continued, “I will work together again.” Not a good deed “It was just a gift,” he continued: “As always, you were incredibly kind, totally funny and absolutely perfect.” Ready to play and full of life. Her warmth and kindness were unparalleled. I just loved you. We all did that.

“I’m so glad I got to see you at the premiere a few weeks ago and introduce you to my parents. They were excited to meet you,” Feldman added. “And my dad made it very clear to me that you were his favorite part.” Not a good deed. He wasn’t the only one who felt that way. Thank you for letting me into your breathtaking orbit. And for letting me shoot with you for a while. 🩷”
