NEWS. Calm skies to start our Thursday morning. 19 MINUTES TO THE END OF THE 6:00 HOUR. IN THE AREA YOU CAN OFTEN SEE UPPER 20S AND LOWER 30S. 32 at ALI, 28 at BOWMAN FIELD. JUST 30 IN SELLERSBURG MADISON. They are down to 28. They’ve dipped further into the mid 20’s in E-Town and come in at midnight this morning, one of the colder spots in town to start the morning and grab the heavier coats. WE WALK 40 AT NOON. JUST A FEW CLOUDS MIXING WITH THE SUNSHINE IN OUR SKY. We will be right with the temperature we should have at this time of year. I think we’ll peak at 44 degrees in the afternoon, drop a few degrees around 5 p.m., and fall into the 30s by evening. Clouds will thicken into the evening before a small thunderstorm moves in today, bringing light snow and causing thunderstorms across the area. YOU DON’T SEE MUCH OF THIS, BUT SOME WEATHER EFFECTS. We are close to freezing point. A LITTLE LIGHT DUST MAY BE SEEN IN SOME PLACES, PARTICULARLY ON RAISED SURFACES. I believe that most of the roads will be in good condition. We’ll look at a few bridges and overpasses, especially north and east of the city. HERE IS THE FORECAST RADAR. WE WILL GO BACK THIS MORNING AND AFTERNOON BECAUSE THE SKY WILL BE CALM UNTIL THE EVENING. The cloud cover begins to thicken. And then, especially as we get past midnight, we start to pull this little system in from the north and west. NOW THE FORECAST RADAR WOULD LIKE TO SHOW A LITTLE RAIN WITH THIS SYSTEM, BUT I GENERALLY THINK WE’RE MORE OF LIGHT SNOW AND FLOWER. And I want you to notice here that the chances are smaller to the south and west. In the north and east it is a little spottier and a little more stable. So best chance of dusting off the I-71 corridor into northern Kentucky and far eastern parts of Indiana. So we will be watching everything closely. BUT AGAIN ONLY MINOR EFFECTS. And it’s moving out tomorrow morning. AND WE ARE DRY. We are calm, but tomorrow it will be a little cooler during the day. AND HIGHS WILL STAY IN THE MID 30’S WITH SNOWS ENDING EARLY IN PARTS. THEN WE STAND AT HIGH MAXIMUM NEAR BARREY AND TURN OUR ATTENTION TO SUNDAY AND MONDAY, TIME FRAME FOR WINTER STORM POTENTIAL IN OUR AREA. Sunday morning will be a serious alert day. It continues to build and last through at least Monday morning with snow, sleet, ice and rain, all sorts of things across the area and especially where we have wintry conditions. I think we’re going to have some difficult trips, especially getting through the day from Sunday to Sunday evening. The further north you live, the better the chances of snow and the snow increases. THE WLKY AREA WILL RECEIVE TOTAL RAIN CONTINUING SOUTH THROUGH KENTUCKY. So are there any changes in this storm system? That’s still about 3,000 miles away and will have a big impact on exactly who sees what. But right now my biggest concern, and I think our biggest concern across the region will be the possibility of significant freezing rain or ice across the region. WE DON’T WANT THAT AT ALL. But that is a big concern, I believe it will take Sunday into Monday for the cold weather behind this system to settle in. TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY HIGH JUST IN THE 20S. AND IF WE HAVE SNOW AND ICE ON THE GROUND THAT DEPTH COULD BE EVEN COLDER. Maybe we’ll look at negative numbers. WHEN WE HAVE SNOW AND ICE
