Updated Big Ten Championship Game Scenarios: Road to title game after Michigan defeats Ohio State

One of the biggest surprises of the 2024 season came in one of the biggest games. Michigan stunned Ohio State with a field goal in the final seconds that ended the Buckeyes’ Big Ten Championship hopes — and the scenarios updated.

Penn State And Indiana are still in the running for a trip to Indianapolis. Both teams needed Ohio State to lose, and that happened as Michigan put the finishing touches on a 13-10 win in Columbus. Now two teams will work to punch their ticket to play at Lucas Oil Stadium Oregon.

Ohio State had just one loss to start Week 14 and only lost to Oregon at Autzen Stadium earlier this year. That meant a win would set up a highly anticipated rematch. However, the loss once again knocked the Buckeyes out of the running for the Big Ten title.

Rivalry week is off to an exciting start and is sure to get even hotter. Here are the updated Big Ten Championship scenarios for Penn State and Indiana.

Penn State

Loss: vs. Ohio State, 20-13
Game week 14:vs. Maryland

Not only did Penn State need to hold serve and beat Maryland on Senior Day in Happy Valley, it also needed some help from the Wolverines. They prevailed, and if the Nittany Lions win against Maryland, Penn State will be back in the Big Ten Championship for the first time since 2016.

And regardless of what happens in the Big Ten title race, a win over the Terps will likely secure the Nittany Lions a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Indiana

Loss: at Ohio State, 38-15
Game week 14: vs. Purdue

The Hoosiers’ perfect season ended in Columbus, but their title hopes remain. But Indiana needs help.

To get past the Buckeyes and Nittany Lions, Indiana had to lose both. And it can’t be one or the other, as Ohio State retains the head-to-head win and Penn State comes into the tiebreaker with a one-loss tie against Indiana, even though they don’t play each other head-to-head.

And the Hoosiers, much like the Buckeyes, Nittany Lions and already-first-place Ducks, would certainly enjoy not only a shot at the league title but also the virtual guarantee of an automatic CFP bid.
