Caleb Ransaw of No. 20 Football was invited to Reese’s Senior Bowl

MOBILE, AL – No. 20, Tulane Football’s defensive lineman Caleb Ransaw has received an invitation to participate in this year’s Reese’s Senior Bowl, the organization announced today.

Ransaw totaled 26 tackles, four stops for a loss, one sack and three pass breakups while playing in ten games with as many starts in his first year at Tulane after transferring from Troy University.

The Reese’s Senior Bowl is widely considered the preeminent college football all-star game and the first phase in the NFL draft process. The longest-running All-Star Game has been held in Mobile, Alabama for the past 75 years. More than 900 NFL employees, including key decision makers from all 32 teams, and over 1,100 media members from across the country were accredited this year. Last April, the game produced a total of 110 picks, representing 43 percent of the total NFL Draft.

The game this season will be played on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. at Hancock Whitney Stadium on the campus of the University of South Alabama and will also be broadcast live on NFL Network.

Last season, Tulane had two players, quarterback Michael Pratt and wide receiver JhaQuan Jackson, invited to play in the Reese’s Senior Bowl. Both were later drafted as Jackson was selected in the sixth round by the Tennessee Titans while Pratt was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the seventh round. The program also had several invitees following the 2022 campaign, including running back Tyjae Spears and linebacker Dorian Williams. Both were selected in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, with Spears being selected by the Tennessee Titans and Williams going to the Buffalo Bills.

Tulane entered the 2024 season with a record of 9-2 and a record of 7-0 in the AAC. The Green Wave earned a road conference victory with a 35-0 win over Navy on November 16th. quarterback Darian Mensah threw two touchdown passes and had a rushing touchdown of 57 yards. The win was Tulane’s eighth straight overall and 17th straight AAC regular season win since the 2022 season. Tulane has now tied the AAC record for consecutive regular season conference wins. Both of the Green Wave’s losses this season came to teams ranked in the Associated Press Top 25, including a 34-27 home loss to then-No. 17 Kansas State on Sept. 7 and a 34-19 road loss to then-No No. 15 Oklahoma on September 14th.

Tulane leads the AAC and the nation with six defensive touchdowns. The program ranks second in the conference in pass efficiency at 169.10.

Tulane was ranked in both polls for the first time this season, as the program is currently ranked No. 20 nationally in the Coaches and Associated Press (AP) poll. It was the second straight week the program achieved a national AP ranking. The program also moved up to No. 20 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, released Nov. 19.

The Green Wave football team was ranked third in the AAC Preseason Media Poll with 362 points and two first-place votes at the conference’s annual media day.

This season, Tulane returns three of the team’s five starters on offense (Shadre Hurst, Josh Remetich, Rashad Green), the conference’s leading rusher (Makhi Hughes), two of the team’s four best receivers (Alex Baumann, Yulkeith Brown), the player of the team (Will Karol) and long snapper (Ethan Hudak), the team’s three best tacklers (Jesus Machado, Tyler Grubbs And Bailey Despanie) and three of the top six defensive players in tackles for loss (Patrick JenkinsGrubbs and Cameron Hamilton)

Tulane finished the 2023 season with an 11-3 record and a perfect 8-0 record in the American Athletic Conference. The program concluded the campaign with its 16th bowl appearance in the GoBowling Military Bowl competition against Virginia Tech. It was the fifth time in the last six years that Tulane appeared in a bowl game. The team has a 32-7 record over the last three seasons.

The school announced the hiring of Jon Sumrall He was named the team’s 42nd head coach on December 8, 2023. The Huntsville, Alabama native has been one of the most successful head coaches in the country over the past two seasons. He led Troy University to a 23-4 record, two Sun Belt Conference championships and two double-digit winning streaks. He was named Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year and was a two-time finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year award. Sumrall returns to Tulane after serving as the Green Wave’s co-defensive coordinator for three years (2012-14). In 2013, he played a critical role in Tulane’s trip to the New Orleans Bowl, the program’s first postseason appearance since 2002 and third since 1988. Sumrall was also named a finalist for the FootballScoop Defensive Line Coach of the Year.

Next up, Tulane’s football team returns home to face Memphis (9-2, 5-2 AAC) on November 28th at 6:30 p.m. The game will also be shown on ESPN.
