LeBron James set another record on Friday when he surpassed the legendary Michael Jordan’s mark for most 30-point games in NBA history and broke the milestone in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 119-102 victory over the Atlanta Hawks .

James scored 30 points on 13 of 20 shooting and reached the mark with a Jordan-esque 18-foot jumper deep into the fourth quarter to record his 563rd 30-point game, tying the record , which the Chicago Bulls star set in 2003.

“It’s very humbling,” James said afterwards, according to NBA.com. “Any time I get mentioned with one of the greats, and arguably the greatest to ever play the game, it’s super cool. It’s someone I idolized growing up, and it’s because of him that I wear 23. Knowing that I can sit here and be in the room or in the conversation or whatever when you mention MJ is just super duper to me , since I am a child from my homeland.”

James led the Lakers, who had a relatively balanced offensive performance, with Anthony Davis contributing 18 points, 19 rebounds, three steals and three blocks and Austin Reaves adding 20 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Despite his teammates’ contributions, the night really belonged to the four-time league MVP, who reached the mark in his 22nd season and 1,523rd. regular season game of his career. Jordan had his record in his 1,072nd. Game and his 15th season, and Davis took the opportunity to slightly anger his teammate for needing seven more seasons to improve.

According to NBA.com, only two other players have had 30-point games after turning 40 – Nowitzki had one and Jordan had four. James, on the other hand, has played two 30-point games in the five days after turning 40 and appears to be well on his way to easily breaking that milestone as well.
