FSU coaching change tracker: Seminoles fire 3 coaches

Update, November 30th: According to a report from ESPN, Florida State has hired Guz Malzahn as offensive coordinator and primary playcaller after he resigned from his position as head coach of the UCF Knights.

Malzahn, who hired Mike Norvell as a graduate assistant while serving as Tulsa’s offensive coordinator, posted a 105-62 record in his 13 years as head coach (including a loss to the Seminoles in the 2013 BCS National Championship Game).

With Florida State (1-9, 1-8 ACC) in the final weeks of a historically terrible football season, head coach Mike Norvell is officially making changes to his coaching staff.

On Sunday, November 10, a statement was released announcing the firings of receivers coach Ron Dugans, offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Alex Atkins and defensive coordinator Adam Fuller.

“I appreciate the work these three men have done with me at Florida State over the last five years,” Norvell said. “They are all great men with families who have also committed to our program. We had many great moments together here and I never doubted her passion for our players and for Florida State. Unfortunately, our on-field performance this season did not meet Florida State’s standards. I didn’t make any of these decisions lightly, but I felt changes needed to be made to get our program back to where we all want it to be.”

Randy Shannon, who served as co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, will assume defensive coordinator duties.

Florida State has a bye week before facing Charleston Southern on Nov. 23 and then closing out the year with a home game against the Florida Gators.
