Real Madrid made it into the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey with a comfortable 5-0 win at fourth division side Deportivo Minera on Monday.

Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga and Arda Guler scored in the first half for the dominant Spanish champions.

The experienced Luka Modric scored the fourth goal before Guler scored his second to end the defeat.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti gave several key players a break ahead of the Spanish Super Cup, which begins in Saudi Arabia later this week. Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior only came on as substitutes in the second half.

Valverde fired a volley at the back post early on to help Madrid take control and Camavinga doubled the lead with a header after 13 minutes.

Endrick almost scored Los Blancos’ third goal, but Guler saved the ball with the help of a deflection after shooting in from the right.

Brahim Diaz hit the post early in the second half before 39-year-old midfielder Modric scored with a fine curling effort.

Güler finished the game with ease after Fran Garcia set him up to cap a fine evening for the Turkish playmaker.

On Saturday, Barcelona and Atlético Madrid also easily advanced to the next round, while defending champions Athletic Bilbao beat third division side Logrones on penalties.

The draw for the next round will take place on Wednesday, with games scheduled to take place between January 14th and 16th.
