Pasadena crash: 2 dead, 4 injured in wrong-way drive near 210-134 freeway transition area

PASADENA, Calif. (KABC) — Two people died and four were injured in a traffic accident on the 134 Freeway in Pasadena on Sunday, authorities said.

It happened just after 8 a.m. in the westbound lanes of North San Rafael Avenue

According to California Highway Patrol reports, a vehicle entered the freeway from the San Rafael Avenue exit and continued eastbound in the westbound lanes near the 210 Freeway at Fair Oaks Avenue.

Lisa Derderian, a public information officer for the city of Pasadena, told Eyewitness News that at least four vehicles were involved in the collision.

She said the wrong-way driver was one of the two people killed, but their identities were not released.

Derderian said the wrong-way driver was the only person in her vehicle at the time of the accident.

Another person died on the way to the hospital, but this victim has not yet been identified.

Meanwhile, three other people received moderate injuries and one person received only minor injuries.

Derderian said the victims included a mother and her teenage daughter and a father and his teenage son. However, their exact terms were not immediately released.

The area was closed for several hours as California Highway Patrol officers cleared the area. ABC7 captured at least three wrecked cars on the side of the road.

A witness reported seeing a burning vehicle at the time of the accident.

Using thermal images, a helicopter ensured that no one was thrown from the cars.

The incident remains under investigation.
