Vinicius Junior was suspended for two games for violent behavior after the red card in Valencia and released for the Supercup

Vinicius Junior was banned for two games after being sent off against Valencia for violent behavior.

Vinicius Jr. was pushed against goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski during the second half of Madrid’s 2-1 La Liga win at Valencia on Friday and received a red card. The move was initially missed by referee Cesar Soto Grado, who had to check the pitchside monitor before sending the 24-year-old off the pitch.

The Spanish Football Federation’s disciplinary committee confirmed on Tuesday evening a two-match ban and a fine of 700 euros for Madrid and a further fine of 600 euros for Vinicius Jr. Madrid will appeal the sanction.

This means the Brazil international will miss Madrid’s next two La Liga games against Las Palmas on January 19th and against bottom-placed Valladolid on January 25th.

The ban only applies to league games, meaning the striker is eligible to take part in Thursday’s Supercopa semi-final against Mallorca, as well as Sunday’s final should Madrid qualify. Barcelona face Athletic Club in the other semi-final.

Vinicius Jr has been in impressive form this season, scoring 13 goals and providing nine assists in 21 games. He played 27 minutes as a second-half substitute in Madrid’s 5-0 win over Deportiva Minera in the Copa del Rey round of 16 on Monday night.
