A new company founded by former Navy SEALs is harnessing the power of AI to protect public spaces like churches and schools from possible shootings.

“We are a team of military veterans who are passionate about protecting our country,” their website states. “As veterans and parents, ZeroEyes co-founders were compelled to develop a proactive solution to keep people safe after seeing and hearing about mass shootings in schools and other public places and their impact on our society.”

They continued: “Based on over 50 years of combined military experience, we provide military-grade intelligence surveillance for facilities such as schools, commercial buildings and defense installations.”

Rob Huberty, co-founder of ZeroEyes, spoke to CBN about the company’s technology, explaining: “We take your existing video cameras and process every frame, image and video feed you have. We use our AI to scan through them and look for exposed weapons.”

“We don’t see ourselves as a total solution, but as a sensible level,” he continued. “There is no facial recognition, there is no predictive analysis, we are just looking for an object that is a weapon.”

Huberty said that ZeroEyes is using this technology “in the right way,” explaining, “We never sell data. We don’t even see the live feed. We’re making sure it’s the safest connection we can possibly have.”

ZeroEyes’ system has already been used in many public spaces, including Temple University.

“We are excited about ZeroEyes’ ability to provide rapid branded weapon detection and resolution on our campus,” said Jennifer Griffin, Temple police chief and vice president of public safety, in a statement. “ZeroEyes is another technology we implemented that not only makes the temple community safer, but also the city. There is no doubt about it: Philadelphia and Temple have a growing security partnership, and we are proud to be a part of it.”

Mike Lahiff, CEO and co-founder of ZeroEyes, said: “We applaud Temple University as a leader in security here on the East Coast. We look forward to working closely with staff to ensure students and faculty feel safe and protected from gun-related violence.”

California’s Valley Baptist Church is also preparing to introduce ZeroEyes’ technology.

“People want to harm us, and when I say us, I mean men and women, the Christian faith… because we live in a broken world,” church security director Matt Montana told CBN. “There is a lot of sin out there and innocence is being taken advantage of.”

He continued, “What we are doing here may in itself deter anyone who would think of harming the people of Valley Baptist Church.”
