As wildfires continue to rage in Los Angeles, many actors and celebrities have seen their homes destroyed. On his Instagram Stories, Mathison filmed the drive back to his former home, and he can be heard making throaty crying, sad and shocked noises. Mathison explained this reaction in a follow-up interview with CNN.

“I’ve never heard these noises coming out of me before,” Mathison told CNN. “It was very strange. There was a gut-wrenching pain and disbelief and fear as I approached my property and didn’t see the house.”

Mathison told CNN he was awakened early by television coverage of the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. When he saw his neighborhood in flames but couldn’t see his own house, he knew he had to see it for himself.

“From the camera angles, I couldn’t tell whether my house was spared or not. I just couldn’t take it anymore, so I got in the car and meandered up into the neighborhood,” Mathison said on CNN. The actor teared up as he recalled, “When I got to our block, it was just completely decimated…Especially on our block, there was almost nothing left. It looked as if houses had never been built there.” . It was simply decimated to nothing.

Mathison is far from the only LA-based actor devastated by the ongoing fires. Billy Crystal, James Woods and Paris Hilton are among those who lost their homes in the disaster.
