Real Madrid are aiming for a record-equalling 14th Spanish Super Cup title in the final against Barcelona after second-half goals from Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo helped them to a 3-0 win over Mallorca in Thursday’s semi-final.

England midfielder Bellingham broke the deadlock on the hour mark with a low shot into the middle of the goal before an own goal from Mallorca defender Martin Valjent in added time doubled the lead, followed by a Rodrygo shot from close range.

Spanish champions Madrid play Barcelona for the trophy on Sunday after Gavi and Lamine Yamal gave the Catalan club a 2-0 win over Athletic Club on Wednesday.

Barcelona and Madrid will meet in the final of the competition for the third time in a row, with Carlo Ancelotti’s side winning last year while Barcelona last won the cup in 2023.

Barcelona holds the record of 14 titles, Madrid has 13.

Last year’s Copa del Rey finalists Mallorca defended well against Madrid and the game was goalless at half-time after early tries from Lucas Vázquez and Bellingham forced saves from Mallorca keeper Dominik Greif.

However, Bellingham managed to get past the Slovak goalkeeper in the 63rd minute after an excellent team move.

Rodrygo hit the post with a header and Kylian Mbappé’s follow-up shot was brilliantly saved by Greif before Bellingham opened the scoring.

Los Blancos They continued to push to extend their lead but only found the goal again when Valjent sent the ball into his own net two minutes into stoppage time and tried to block a shot from Madrid substitute Brahim Díaz.

Three minutes later, Rodrygo made it 3-0 by converting a stunning cross from Vazquez into the penalty area, celebrating his 24th birthday in style.

Since 2020, the Spanish Super Cup has been a four-team competition involving the winners and runners-up of LaLiga and Copa del Rey.
