LIVE UPDATES: Possible winter weather in central and northern GA.

As Central Georgia prepares for possible winter weather, here’s a look at the updates coming to our newsroom.

MACON, Ga. – As a low pressure system brings potential winter weather to central Georgia, 13WMAZ is paying close attention to the forecast as the storm approaches.

Governments, the governor’s office, state agencies and local organizations have released changes to their schedules or updates on the potential impacts.

Here’s a look at some of the latest updates as Central Georgia prepares for the storm, including updates from governments, the governor’s office and more.

Thursday:

6:30 p.m.: The Houston County School System will have classes as usual on Friday, Jan. 10, according to a post on the school district’s Facebook page. They say they will monitor the US National Weather Service overnight for any updates or changes.

5:07 p.m.: Capitol City Bank said its five Bibb County offices will not open until 11 a.m. and then return to normal hours. The five locations are located in:

  • 6200 Skipper Road, Macon, GA
  • 325 Fifth St., Macon, GA
  • 3535 Mercer University Drive, Macon, GA
  • 5981 Zebulon Road, Macon, GA
  • 1601 Bass Road, Macon, GA

4:45 p.m.: The Georgia Department of Transportation said efforts are underway to ensure roads – particularly those used by first responders – are prepared for possible winter weather. This includes brining and brining highways such as I-75 and I-16 in central Georgia. GDOT said state highways and highways in affected areas will receive at least one treatment before the storm arrives Friday morning.

4:30 p.m.: Adult day center The Life Enrichment Center of Baldwin County announced it would be closed Friday due to possible winter weather.

4:22 p.m.: Mercer University’s Macon campus will operate normally on Friday, but the university has canceled classes at its Atlanta campus and at its regional academic centers in Douglas and Henry County.

4:21 p.m.: Pamela Kirkland, media coordinator for the West Central Health District, announced some changes to the health department’s operations. The Talbot County Health Department and Taylor County Health Department will remain closed Friday, while the Marion County Health Department will open late at 11 a.m. Friday. All other locations are open from 10 a.m

4 p.m.: Milledgeville has canceled its City Council planning meeting due to possible winter weather and Governor Kemp’s state of emergency declaration.

3:47 p.m.: Baldwin County has issued a local emergency declaration authorizing the EMA Director to initiate the County Emergency Operation Plan and activate the County’s Emergency Management Order.

2:48 p.m: The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Bibb, Twiggs, Wilkinson, Washington, Hancock, Baldwin, Jones, Monroe and Crawford counties. That’s one step below the winter storm warning. The NWS issued a winter storm warning for Putnam, Jasper and Butts Counties across most of north Georgia.

11:31 a.m.: The Macon Transit Authority will have a delayed start to bus service due to possible winter weather. They begin the service at 10 a.m

11 a.m.: Gov. Brian Kemp issued an emergency declaration, mobilizing state resources and changing regulations to help the state better respond to the impacts of possible winter weather.
