Actor Milo Ventimiglia has revealed that his family’s Malibu home burned down Fires in Los Angeles — an eerie reflection of the tragedy that befell his character on the NBC drama series “This Is Us.”

Ventimiglia, a 47-year-old father-to-be, is one of them Celebrities affected by the destructive fires that broke out this week amid strong winds. He spoke to CBS News as he returned home for the first time after the evacuation to survey the damage on his burned street.

Although the neighbors had already told him that his house had been destroyed, seeing it in person made it real.

“You start thinking about all the memories in the different parts of the house and what not, and then you see your neighbors’ houses and everything around them and your heart just breaks,” Ventimiglia said.

Ventimiglia and his pregnant wife, Jarah, evacuated Tuesday and watched on surveillance cameras as flames from the Palisades Fire spread. The couple grabbed everything they could think of – but not everything, such as the crib and other items in their baby’s nursery.

On This Is Us, Ventimiglia’s character Jack Pearson dies of smoke inhalation after his house burns down on the show.

“You know, it’s not lost on me that life imitates art,” Ventimiglia said.

In 2018, Ventimiglia recalled filming the challenging scene in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“Their live effects crew who were responsible for this were so responsible, but when you’re still staring at a six-foot wall of flames, it’s hard not to be completely intimidated by the brutal, intense fear of what it represents he told the outlet.

But unlike Jack, Ventimiglia is still here, with everything he says is really important.

“We have good friends and good people that we work with and get along with. Wife, baby and dog, the most important thing,” Ventimiglia said.

After the fictional fire on “This Is Us,” Ventimiglia became involved in fire prevention. Now he says his interest has turned to wildfire protection and he’s already thinking about how he could help his community and others.
