Today’s top NBA player prop picks

Toronto Raptors at Cleveland Cavaliers

Scottie Barnes over 31.5 points + Reb + Ast (-108)

Scottie Barnes averages 34.7 combined points, rebounds and assists (PRA) per game. His PRA currently sits at 31.5, a mark he has exceeded in 66.7% of games this season. This odds of -108 only implies a 51.9% probability.

Barnes and the Toronto Raptors face the Cleveland Cavaliers, who play at the sixth-fastest pace in the NBA. Notably, Barnes posts a 36.1 PRA against top 12 teams. In this split, he exceeded the PRA of 31.5 (87.5%) in seven of eight games.

Now the Cavs are actually eighth in defense and have a whopping 15.5 point lead tonight. But they put up a super tough fight against the Oklahoma City Thunder last night and might look a little more exhausted than usual tonight. Additionally, Barnes has faced top-10 defenses in 60.0% of his games and against top-10 defenses in 63.2% of his games Top 20 defenses exceeded a PRA of over 31.5.

Barnes posted a 32 PRA against Cleveland in late November despite shooting 35.7% from the floor in that game.

Atlanta Hawks at Phoenix Suns

Tyus Jones 2+ made threes (+100)

Tyus Jones is shooting three-pointers at a rate of 42.3% – the ninth-best three-pointer rate in the league among players who have attempted at least 175 three-pointers.

He has made at least two three-pointers in 61.8% of games, which is an implied probability of 50.0% at these even-money odds. On top of that, he’s going to have a great game tonight against the Atlanta Hawks.

Atlanta plays at the second-fastest pace in the NBA. Jones is shooting 2.1 three-pointers (3 p.m.) and has made at least two three-pointers in five of seven games (71.4%) against top-10 teams.

The Hawks also have the 11th-worst defensive rating and – by far – the worst three-point defense in the league. They achieved league-highs in 3PM (15.5), 3PA (40.5), and 3P% (38.4%).

Jones has played 14 games against bottom-15 three-point defenses. In this split, he is averaging a 2.6 15 p.m. and has made at least two trios in 78.6% of games (11 of 14 contests). I’m more than happy to back him at +100 odds at this point.

Portland Trail Blazers at Dallas Mavericks

Dereck Lively over 17.5 points + Reb (-128) / Dereck Lively records a double-double (+280)

Luka Doncic (calf) and Kyrie Irving (back) remain out for the Dallas Mavericks, while Daniel Gafford is questionable with an ankle injury.

This is great news for Dereck Lively’s scoring stats as long as he stays out of foul trouble.

In Luka-less games in which Lively played more than 20 minutes, he averaged 19.8 combined points and rebounds (PR) and exceeded the PR of 17.5 (75.0%) in six of eight games. His stock will only increase if Gafford is ruled out, as Dallas’ backup center plays 20.1 minutes and averages 17.7 PRs per game.

The Mavs face the Portland Trail Blazers, who are ranked 26th in defense and 15th in pace. Portland scores the sixth-most points and the 12th-most rebounds per minute from centers. Perhaps more importantly, the Blazers commit the fourth-fewest fouls in the NBA on the road. Lively is whistled for the second-most fouls per minute (draws) among players who have logged at least 700 minutes this season, so this gentle matchup could do wonders for him.

I call Lively’s double-double prop, which is currently at +280. He has recorded a double-double in 5 of 10 games in which he played at least 28 minutes. With Luka, Kyrie and possibly Gafford all sitting out and awaiting a friendly against a Portland team that doesn’t allow many fouls, our NBA predictions predict Lively will play 27.8 minutes tonight.
