A severe winter storm is occurring today

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A snowstorm will have a major impact on the Midstate Friday and Friday evening.

FIRST WEATHER WARNING DAY – TODAY AND THIS EVENING

A severe winter storm will move through the Midstate today, causing significant travel disruptions in Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky. Snow will fall across the Midstate through the morning and road conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly.

The intensity of snowfall will increase late morning and through the afternoon as temperatures remain around freezing.

Some interference of sleet and/or rain is expected at least over southern Middle Tennessee this midday, and some interference could even approach the I-40 corridor for a short period of time. However, snow is the most likely type of precipitation for the duration of the storm in Nashville.

This evening there will be less snow from west to east and by midnight tonight there will be total snow in our area.

Snowfall totals will be in the 4 to 6 inch range across most of the Midstate, although higher amounts could occur locally due to heavier pockets of snow. Slightly lower total numbers are expected further north. Further south, the overall values are influenced by any mixing.

There is still a chance of some severe weather or a light freezing drizzle overnight, but this would be isolated overall across the Midstate as lows fall into the 20s by tomorrow morning.

THIS WEEKEND:

Clouds and a few thunderstorms will remain on Saturday. Low: 26. High: 36.

Do everything you can to clear sidewalks and driveways on Saturday, if not Friday. This will set the stage for some good melting on Sunday.

Sunday will be sunnier. After an icy start around 20°C, temperatures drop to over 30°C by the afternoon.
