Macy’s and Kohl’s plan to close stores in New Jersey

More major retailers are closing locations across the country, including here in New Jersey.

Kohl’s is expected to close just one location in New Jersey in April. It is located on Princeton Hightstown Road in East Winsor.

It is one of 27 underperforming stores, according to Kohl’s Corporate. Additionally, they say their e-commerce distribution center in San Bernardino, California, will close in May. Their CEO says it’s part of their long-term growth strategy.

Macy’s plans to close 66 stores across the country that are also underperforming. They still plan to close the 150 stores they announced early last year. The company says it is a “bold new chapter” strategy that will return the company to sustainable, profitable revenue growth.

The only location closing in New Jersey is Macy’s Backstage on Prospect Avenue West in the Essex Green Shopping Center in West Orange.

The Macy’s website states: “For Macy’s stores, sales begin in January and last approximately 8 to 12 weeks. For Macy’s Backstage locations and Macy’s Furniture Galleries, the sale begins in February and lasts approximately 6 weeks. Macy’s and Kohl’s have joined the list of major retailers closing locations in New Jersey, including Big Lots, Party City and Stop and Shop.
