Former Ducks football player accused of pistol whipping in California arrested on warrant | Local

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — A former Oregon Ducks football player accused of pistol-whipping a person on Christmas Day in California was arrested this week in Springfield on a warrant from his hometown of Long Beach, Calif., according to court documents.

A probable cause affidavit filed in Lane County Circuit Court with a fugitive from justice states that Ryan Tristan Chance Taylor, also known as Ryan Pellum, a Ducks wide receiver who has just entered the transfer portal, Allegedly caused an injury to the victim’s head, which required stitches. Taylor then allegedly fired two shots in an unknown direction. A nationwide extradition warrant was issued for his arrest in Long Beach, California, on a charge of assault with a firearm, the affidavit said.

Court documents say Eugene police located Taylor at an apartment on Gateway Street in Springfield and observed him walking in and out of the apartment. Police contacted him there on Wednesday, and Taylor allegedly told police he knew he had a warrant out for his arrest in California because people were calling him about it, but he didn’t elaborate, according to court records. Taylor is not currently in the Lane County Jail as of January 10; An unknown person posted an undisclosed amount of bail Thursday after Taylor waived extradition. Court records show Taylor is due back in court on Jan. 23 and California has until that date to remove Taylor from Oregon.

Taylor signed with the Ducks in December 2023 under the last name Pellum after initially committing to the University of California in Southern California. Taylor’s uncle, Don Pellum, was a linebacker for the Oregon Ducks in the 1980s and coached the Ducks for more than 20 years at the University of Oregon. In 2014, he was defensive coordinator before moving to UCLA, where he served as linebackers coach until his retirement in 2022.

A university spokesman said Taylor is no longer enrolled at the school and is no longer a member of the Ducks.
