Fire in LA: Wildfires are raging in Los Angeles County in Southern California, killing at least ten people

A distraught Los Angeles mother confronted California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday about the city’s raging wildfires, demanding answers about why the fire hydrants were empty and what he would do to repair communities left in ruins were laid.

Pacific Palisades resident Rachel Darvish ran toward the governor as he was about to get into a black SUV. She had observed some of the damage after multiple fires devastated the once picturesque neighborhood known for its charming homes and stunning coastal views.

“Governor! I live here, Governor! That was my daughter’s school, what are you going to do?” Darvish, wearing an industrial-style white mask, said in the clip captured by Sky News.

A soft-spoken Newsom then says he “literally spoke to the president” to find out what he and President Biden could do for Darvish and her daughter.

“Can I hear it, can I hear your call? Because I don’t believe it!” Darvish said, shaking her hands with deep skepticism.

“I tried five times, so I’m running around trying to make the call,” Newsom responded, saying he had no cell service and was trying to get through to Biden.

“I’m devastated for you, I’m so sorry, especially for your daughter,” Newsom said apologetically.

Darvish suggested setting up cell service together, and she wanted to be there when Newsom got through to Biden and realized that local schoolchildren had lost everything. She demanded answers as to why there wasn’t enough water in the fire hydrants to put out the deadly flames.

“Why wasn’t there water in the fire hydrants, Governor? Will it be different next time?” she asked.

“It has to be that way, of course it has to be,” Newsom responded.

“What are you going to do?”

“I’m doing everything I can,” the governor said. “I’ll do what I can.”

“Fill the fire hydrants. I would fill them personally, you know that,” Darvish said before raising her voice. “I would fill the hydrants myself. Would you do that?”

Newsom said he would do whatever it took, but Darvish shot back, saying, “You’re not!”
