Texas A&M Aggies QB Marcel Reed compared to NFL MVP

Texas Longhorns star linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. has high praise for Texas A&M Aggies quarterback Marcel Reed.

In a meeting with the media on Monday, Hill Jr. previewed Saturday’s match against Reed in College Station by comparing him to two-time NFL MVP and Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.

“He’s an elite football player,” Hill Jr. said of Reed. “I really like watching him in the few games I’ve seen him play. He kind of reminds me of Lamar, just the way he moves and walks around. It will be a good task to compete against him and that’s what we’re doing. “I’m just looking forward to it. … To stop a dual threat like that, you have to contain the pocket, and that’s just limiting some of his mobility and just trying to limit some of the deep throws and pocket movements.

Reed officially took over the starting job from Conner Weigman after scoring three touchdowns in a win over LSU on October 26. He started in the three games since then, having proven himself when Weigman missed three straight games due to injury early in the season.

This season, Reed completed 105 of 175 passes for 1,426 yards, 12 touchdowns and three interceptions, as well as 93 carries for 441 yards and six scores.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian also had high praise for Reed.

“I mean, a legitimate dual-threat quarterback,” he said. “…This guy is electric, fast and a real weapon. I think that’s why their red zone numbers are so good because when they get down there, you have to defend it both when running the ball and throwing the ball.”

Texas and Texas A&M begin Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT.
