Golden State Warriors starters Stephen Curry (knee) and Draymond Green (back) will sit out Friday’s road game against the Indiana Pacers, head coach Steve Kerr told reporters Friday.

Kerr described Green’s back as “tight and bothersome,” while noting that Curry “still has some fluid in his knee” (h/t Anthony Slater of The Athletic).

“If they are injured we have to be careful, otherwise they will miss a month or two and then our season is over.”

Kerr added that he hopes to get both players back before Monday’s road game against the Toronto Raptors.

“Unfortunately, they’re at that age and stage of their career where they’re so worn out that no matter how you look at it, they’re going to miss some games,” Kerr said.

“If they are injured we have to be very careful. Otherwise they’ll miss a month or two.”

Curry leads the Warriors with 22.6 points per game on 44.6 percent shooting from the field and 44.1 percent from three-point range this season.

Green paces the Golden State defense with 1.2 blocks per game and averages 8.7 points.

The Warriors’ decision to sign Dennis Schröder from the Brooklyn Nets becomes even more important given the injury news.

After losing Curry’s previous backup De’Anthony Melton to season-ending knee surgery, the Warriors decided to trade the remainder of Melton’s contract for Schröder once the former Nets guard became tradeable in December. It’s likely that Schröder will increase his playing time in Curry’s absence.

After winning 12 of their first 15 games to start the season, the Warriors slipped in the Western Conference standings due to a series of losses in November and December.

The team hit rock bottom when Curry only had two points the least He had ever recorded playing at least 24 minutes in a game during a loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on December 19.

The Warriors have since clawed their way back into a playoff spot, but their hopes of staying there hinge on Curry’s availability.

Curry has already missed seven games this season due to injury. He was sidelined for three contests in October with an ankle injury and has missed four additional games due to knee soreness and injury treatment.

The Warriors hope to have him and Green back in the lineup as soon as possible as the franchise prepares to evaluate this roster ahead of the Feb. 6 trade deadline.
