Snow causes winter storm in North Carolina

Snowfall totals for the North Carolina and Piedmont Triad areas

IN ADVANCE. RIGHT people? YES THAT IS CORRECT. A sunny Saturday which should help the main streets a bit. As soon as the temperatures warm up. BUT WE STILL HAVE A LOT OF SNOW AND SLICK ON THE GROUND. OUR FORECAST IN GENERAL WAS THAT MOST OF OUR AREA COULD BECOME BETWEEN 1 AND 4 IN. And that’s pretty much where we ended up. ALL LISTED TOTALS YOU SEE ARE PROVISIONAL. Of course, there are so many reports to sift through. We need some time. So if you’d like to share how much you got in your backyard, we’d love to hear from you via email or social media. SEND US A MESSAGE, LET US KNOW AND WE’LL UPDATE OUR TOTALS HERE. WINSTON RECEIVED ABOUT 5 INCHES IN ABOUT 2 INCHES, ABOUT 3 INCHES A LITTLE MORE FOR GREENSBORO NORTH AND WEST OF NORTH WILKESBORO. MOUNT AIRY HAS FOUR ½, MAYBE EVEN FIVE IN A FEW SPOTS. SO MORE AND MORE SNOW IN THE NORTH AND WEST AND LESS IN THE SOUTH AND EAST, AS WE LAST EXPECTED 1077 DAYS AGO. THAT WAS ON JANUARY 29, 2022. ABOUT THREE YEARS AND YESTERDAY OF COURSE WE RECORDED OVER 5 INCHES AT PTI. Now that the 1000+ day stretch is over and we’re starting to see most of our system move away as sleet and snow have stopped for the Piedmont Triad, you can even see the trailing edge of that Cloud decks are moving east, and once the sun rises here we will likely see some sunshine THE NEXT HOURS. A few snow showers are starting to appear in the mountains. There is still a cold northwesterly breeze, so there are still a few persistent winds blowing around up there in the highlands. But of course we are all cold this morning and with snow, sleet and ice still lying around, it will be a while before the roads begin to improve in the slightest. Therefore, it’s best to just stay off the roads if you can. Today the wind is not as bad across the Triad, but it is noticeable increasing in the mountains behind this system to the north and west. It’s likely to become windy throughout the morning and into the afternoon, so today will be cool and windy, probably below freezing for most of us. Despite all the sun it is slippery this morning. INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS Major roads may see some improvement this afternoon, but will become slippery again this evening. It will be cold and breezy in the foothills until the snow showers arrive. Head to the mountains around midday before they too start to dry out. Of course, we know that when it comes to winter storms in the Carolinas, the impacts don’t stop when the snow stops. That’s what we’re going to be dealing with, kind of the aftereffects of that, which will last for a while. SO N
