It ended up being an easy task for Chelsea as they beat Morecambe 5-0 in the FA Cup on Saturday. Tosin Adarabioyo and Joao Felix scored twice each, while Christopher Nkunku spared his earlier blushes by scoring a goal himself as Enzo Maresca’s side comfortably progressed to the fourth round.

After overcoming an early scare, the Blues quickly took control of the game in the first half but simply couldn’t convert their chances. After Adarabioyo hit the crossbar with their first big chance, they were given an even better opportunity when the referee pointed to the penalty spot for a Morecambe handball, but Nkunku’s tame effort was parried by goalkeeper Harry Burgoyne.

Despite their dominance, the breakthrough came as a bit of a surprise in the 39th minute when Adarabioyo, who had collected the ball outside the penalty area and saw no more passing options, opted for a shot that flew past Burgoyne after a massive deflection. Nkunku managed to make up for his earlier embarrassment five minutes into the second half when a shot was deflected into his path and he was able to deflect it past Burgoyne.

While the second division side were quite strong defensively and caused problems on the field, Chelsea were simply too much for them. Adarabioyo put the game beyond doubt with a fine goal from outside the penalty area, before Joao Felix made it 5-0 with his quick brace – his second was particularly great – and rounded off the afternoon.
