College basketball rankings: Tennessee’s surprising loss leads to drastic changes in CBS Sports’ top 25 and 1

After No. 1, there are no undefeated teams in the AP Top 25 Tennesseeis a shocking 73-43 loss to No. 8 Florida on the road on Tuesday evening.

The SEC also failed to provide any action in the first two conference play games. No. 6 Kentuckywho beat Florida in the conference’s opening game, was upset with the unranked player Georgia also on the go.

Iowa State has won its last 10 games since mid-November – an 83-81 loss to Auburn. The Cyclones have won all but two of their 13 wins by a margin of 10 or more points and are outscoring their Big 12 opponents by 17.3 points through three games.

The Gators have an interesting road test ahead of them Arkansas comes on Saturday. With the strength of the SEC, you can’t discount the Razorbacks, but momentum will certainly be on Florida’s side when they travel to Fayetteville this weekend.

Alabama is 4-1 against ranked opponents this season and has won its last six games since losing to Thanksgiving Day Houston. The Crimson Tide had a quiet December after the win North Carolina in Chapel Hill, but gave a great tip for the SEC game against Oklahoma last weekend.

Six players defeated the previously unbeaten Sooners 107:79 and scored in double figures Mark Sears led the way with 22 points and 10 assists. Impressively, the Crimson Tide outscored OU 51-26 during the contest.

Shaka Smart has his Golden Eagles atop the Big East standings and 10-0 at home. At 14-2, the two losses came in true road games, including an 81-70 loss to Iowa State and an 8-point loss to Dayton.

Marquette has a favorable schedule for the remainder of the month, leading to a showdown against the two-time defending national champion USA on February 1st UConn Huskies.

Tennessee’s 30-point loss to Florida on Tuesday is no indication of the success Rick Barnes’ team has had in the first two months of the regular season. They defeated John Calipari’s Arkansas Razorbacks by 24 points in their last game and have been dominant against most of their opponents this year.

Luckily for the Vols, they have the opportunity to put together an impressive January with potential wins Mississippi StateAuburn and Kentucky all back on the schedule to close out the month. They can also get their win back on February 1st when they host the Gators in Knoxville.

Mississippi State hasn’t lost since Nov. 29 and defeated its first two SEC opponents by 35 and 12 points, respectively. They have a chance to upset Kentucky this weekend after suffering a double-digit loss Georgia — a matchup in which ESPN projects the Bulldogs to have a 63.2% chance of winning.

Starwatch Josh Hubbard hasn’t missed a beat since averaging 17.1 points per game as a true freshman. He is once again Missippippi State’s leading scorer with 20 or more points in six games this season.

Michigan State’s success this season came as a surprise compared to some of the teams on this list. They started the season unranked and even suffered two heavy defeats before December. Tom Izzo’s team has since won its last seven games and has been climbing the rankings since joining the AP Top 25 in mid-December.

They won’t face another ranked team until Jan. 19, when they host No. 13 Illinoisbut there is a tough opponent coming up in February UCLA, Oregon, Purdue, Michigan and a rematch against the Illini.

Kentucky fell to 0-2 in true away games under first-year head coach Mark Pope after losing 82-69 to unranked Georgia on Tuesday. They previously lost to Clemson at Littlejohn Coliseum in December.

The two performances couldn’t have been different after Saturday’s 106-100 win over Florida. Kentucky has a chance to stop the road loss narrative before starting a tough matchup against a red-hot Mississippi State team in Starkville this weekend.
