Steelers inactive due to wild card game at Ravens

The Steelers will play tonight’s Wild Card game against the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium without starting right guard Mason McCormick, who broke his hand last week against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The fourth-round rookie out of South Dakota State quickly became an integral part of the team this season, appearing in 17 games, starting 14 of them, after veteran guard James Daniels was placed on the reserve/injured list.

With McCormick out, Spencer Anderson will likely start at right guard. He started the first three games of the season at left back for the injured Isaac Seumalo and is ready for whatever he needs to do.

“Whether Mason broke his hand or not, you always have to be ready. You’re just a play away,” Anderson said. “You have to be ready when your number is called. You always have to be ready and perfect your craft throughout the week.”

The Steelers today signed offensive lineman Calvin Anderson from the Reserve/Injured, Designated for Return list to the 53-man roster and he will be active.

Calvin Anderson, signed by the Steelers in September, was placed on the reserve/injured list on December 14th. He returned to training earlier this week.

Anderson, who was originally signed by the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent following the 2019 NFL Draft, has played in 46 games in his career, including 14. He spent time with the Patriots and New York Jets before joining the Denver Broncos signed to 53-man roster in 2019.

Anderson played in all 16 games for the Broncos in 2020, starting one at right tackle and one at left tackle. He appeared in 11 games in 2021, including three as a starter, all as a left winger. In 2022, he played in 14 games, including seven at left tackle for Denver, and allowed just two sacks with no holding calls.

Anderson signed with the New England Patriots as an unrestricted free agent prior to the 2023 season. He played five games in 2023, starting two, before being placed on the reserve/injured list, where he finished the season.

Also inactive tonight are cornerback Cory Trice Jr., receivers Scotty Miller and Jamal Agnew, linebacker Preston Smith and defensive end Dean Lowry.
