Chargers’ Ladd McConkey sets NFL record by receiving yards from rookie WR

In the Chargers’ 32-12 wild-card loss to the Texans, rookie wide receiver Ladd McConkey wrote a piece of league history, although it may not give him a better feeling about the outcome.

With 197 receiving yards Saturday against Houston, McConkey set the single-game record for receiving yards by a rookie in NFL history. That number is also good for third-most in any playoff debut in league annals, behind only Calvin Johnson with 211 and Demaryius Thomas with 204.

McConkey’s accomplishment is only made more apparent in defeat by the lack of “what.” not happen around him. Outside of his performance, Chargers players recorded five receptions for 45 yards. The second most productive player behind McConkey? Tight end Will Dissly had two catches and 16 yards.

Overall, the rookie finished his first professional season with 1,346 yards on 91 receptions and a total of eight touchdowns between the regular season and the postseason.
