Pittsburgh Steelers and George Pickens are heading for a divorce

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Steelers enter the playoffs on a four-game losing streak, but are hoping to recover their losses and return to winning ways against the Baltimore Ravens. It’s been seven years since the Steelers advanced past the Wild Card round of the playoffs, and the eighth goal could mark the end of their greatest weapon.

In recent weeks, wide receiver George Pickens has made headlines for showing frustration during games and also having issues with dropped passes on the field in Week 18. He was mentioned by former players and asked about route running and his connection to Russell Wilson.

NFL insider Mike Florio believes a loss to the Ravens in the playoffs could spell the end. Speaking to 93.7 The Fan, Florio said a wild card exit could be the last game Pickens plays in a Steelers jersey.

“Well, that assumes he wants one (a future). I feel like we’re heading into mutual divorce territory with the two (sides) and his body language, his demeanor, and the fact that Mike Tomlin has done such a great job.” Guys either to the end of their long career or after her death,” Florio said when asked about Pickens’ future. “And we’ve seen so much acting from George Pickens, and Tomlin sometimes seems upset and says he needs to grow up.”

Pickens became the Steelers WR1 this season after the team traded Diontae Johnson. The message has been loud and clear this offseason: remove as much noise from the locker room as possible and try to make the playoffs.

Distractions have followed Pickens throughout his NFL career, and Florio believes the Steelers may be as inclined to part ways with him as he is with them.

“…it seems like the Steelers are at a point where they wouldn’t mind letting him go,” Florio said. “And that won’t surprise me, especially if they lose. I think if they lose on Saturday night there could be some serious winds of change blowing.”

The Steelers would have to find a replacement for their best wide receiver if they moved forward, but trading Pickens would likely come with fair compensation. Something the team could consider in the offseason.
