The Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers opened their season with the NFL’s first game in Brazil – a 34-29 win for Philadelphia. That night, Saquon Barkley threw for 109 yards and two touchdowns in a strong debut for the Eagles, and Jordan Love threw for 260 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a good performance to start the year. Now, 18 weeks later, they open the NFC portion of the wild card round in Philadelphia. Barkley eventually became the ninth running back in NFL history to surpass 2,000 yards on the ground, and Love helped lead the Packers back to the playoffs by throwing 25 touchdown passes despite missing two games due to injury missed.

However, all eyes will be on the Eagles’ quarterback as Jalen Hurts recovers from a concussion he suffered in a Week 16 loss to the Commanders. Hurts returned to practice on Wednesday. Philadelphia lost to Washington but finished the season with wins over the Cowboys and Giants. The 14-3 Eagles finished the season with a win and won 12 of their last 13 games after starting the opening month 2-2 with losses to the Falcons and Buccaneers. The 11-6 Packers were 0-5 against the three NFC teams with 14 wins each – Detroit, Minnesota and Philadelphia – and their only other loss came to the Bears on a walk-off field goal in Week 18.

    It’s their first game and for the first time the Philly crowd isn’t in an uproar. Jordan Love hit Tucker Kraft on an out route for six yards on a 3rd-and-2 to move the chains.

  • Packers force a punt, stop the tide

    After the ball crossed the 50-yard line, Green Bay’s defense bent over and got a much-needed stop.

    The Packers will start at the 20 after a touchback on the punt, but will be left behind after disaster on the first eight plays of the game – including a turnover, an Eagles touchdown, a penalty and a 3-and-out.

    Philly started the drive at 35 degrees and is now moving. Brown made his first catch of the day — after missing some practice time this week with a knee injury — and got the Eagles going.

    It’s VERY EARLY – the first quarter is still over 12 minutes away – but the Eagles are already up 7-0 and have committed a stop and a turnover. The Sharks aren’t on the right track yet, but the Packers could certainly use a stop in this series.

    That kickoff return wasn’t too bad, but there was a penalty, so the Packers started inside their own 20 yard line after a holding flag on the Nixon return.

    This is just too easy, folks. There isn’t an NFL quarterback on any roster who couldn’t find an open receiver on this play. It’s Dotson’s first touchdown in an Eagles jersey, and with less than two minutes left in the first quarter, the Eagles lead 7-0.

    Mr. 2K for 16 yards on the first play from scrimmage and this start is exactly what the Eagles wanted.

    The Eagles’ signal-caller was sidelined following a loss to the Commanders in Week 16 – Philadelphia’s only loss in the last 13 games, and he came in on a last-second touchdown away from home – but is back after completing concussion protocol heading in The season has clarified the wildcard round.

    Hurts has established himself as one of the NFL’s top quarterbacks in recent years, throwing for 2,903 yards with a 68.7% completion rate and 18 touchdowns and perhaps more importantly just five in the 15 games he played this season Interceptions.     Philadelphia is 2-1 all-time in the postseason against Green Bay, with its only Packer win coming in the 2010-11 NFC Wild Card round. Aaron Rodgers threw three touchdown passes in that game and it was the start of Green Bay’s victory as a wild card team to the Super Bowl.

    The Eagles won the 1960 NFL championship game against Green Bay at the start of what would become the Packers dynasty – the team won five championships in the ’60s, including the first two Super Bowls.

    Perhaps the most famous play in the teams’ playoff history was a 4th-and-26 win by Philadelphia in the 2003-04 playoffs – a legendary play in Philadelphia sports history. Donovan McNabb hit Freddie Mitchell to keep a late drive alive that allowed Philly to score a game-winning field goal and ultimately win the game.
