Jordan Love vs. Jalen Hurts in the Playoffs A matchup of QBs returning from injury

We might as well call Sunday’s playoff game between the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles the crazy Quarterback Bowl, as Jalen Hurts and Jordan Love try to perform despite physical setbacks that have recently knocked them out of games .

Hurts is playing for the first time since Dec. 22, when he suffered a concussion in the first half against the Washington Commanders. According to coach Nick Sirianni, he approved the concussion protocol on Friday.

Love is playing after being eliminated from last week’s regular season finale against the Chicago Bears. In that game, Love landed on his right elbow and experienced numbness in his throwing hand, a classic symptom of an ulnar nerve problem, according to OutKick medical expert and Sports Injury Central founder Dr. David Chao.

Will Jalen Hurts be Rusty?

So if two quarterbacks are on the mend, what does the good doctor see the prognosis for each?

“Jalen Hurts, there is some concern because (some say) quarterbacks don’t play well the first week after a concussion,” Dr. Chaos. “Well, is it really his first week back? This is the third game (since his concussion).”

Dr. Chao isn’t worried about Hurts struggling due to his injury because even though he just passed protocol this week, he hasn’t had a concussion in weeks. There is a difference.

So it’s no surprise that offensive tackle Jordan Mailata told reporters that Hurts “looked strong” in practice.

“I’m ready to go,” Hurts said.

Well then what about love?

Dr. Chao: Love Accuracy One question

“Love is worse in the sense that he will play, but if he has a lingering tingling sensation or a lingering problem with grip strength, I’m not saying he will for sure, but again, look at how Marcus Mariota played when he was with the Titans.”

Mariota suffered an elbow injury in 2018 and lost some feeling and grip strength. His game showed that he was wrong.

“I’m more worried about Jordan Love’s downfield accuracy than I am about Jalen Hurt’s rust coming off a concussion and clearing the concussion protocol.”

“Am I worried that (Love) won’t play? No. Am I worried he won’t play well? Yes. Some worries.”

Love Off injury report through Friday

Love left the Packers’ season finale against the Bears. And he didn’t return. He finished the game with just 23 snaps, while backup Malik Willis played 43. But Dr. Chao says that’s not the point.

“Jordan could throw,” Dr. said. Chaos. “He could have returned. But was he completely right? No.”

The Packers share Dr. Chaos concerns not public. If they did, they wouldn’t say it anyway.

Love was completely off the injury report Friday and Packers coach Matt LaFleur said Love “did well” in practice.

We’ll see how the game goes on Sunday.
