A cold front moving in tonight will bring significantly colder temperatures and snow

The forecast for tonight:
A low pressure area is currently spreading and bringing snow showers to the mountains and plains. There has already been some accumulation in the Springs area and road temperatures are below freezing. Therefore, be careful on the roads, especially on bridges. The heaviest snow will likely hit the plains and that is where the largest accumulations will occur. Once we get to tomorrow, those cold temperatures will stay behind, but the sun will come out again.

Colorado Springs Forecast: Low: 17; High: 30;
Accumulations have already begun in the northern part of the springs. Most of the roads are just wet, but if we get below freezing tonight so will the roads. When we wake up in the morning, it wouldn’t be surprising to see some slippery spots on the roads. Large gatherings are not expected and the majority of this will likely occur in the north. As the saying goes: “Tomorrow the sun will come out!”

Pueblo Forecast: Low: 18; High: 33;
Pueblo will reach upper teens temperatures this evening and there will still be some severe weather. Large accumulations are not expected and most showers will likely evaporate before they get there. Most of the snow will clear overnight and there will only be a few clouds in the morning.

Canon City forecast: Low: 22; High: 33;
There is a chance of some severe weather in Canon City this evening and temperatures will be well below freezing. Wind chills will be in the single digits at times, so it’s not the time to skip layers. Highs won’t be much better tomorrow with temperatures around 30°C and most of the day will be below freezing. However, the sun is shining and there are a few clouds.

Woodland Park Forecast: Low: 13; High: 29;
Woodland Park doesn’t have the best chance of seeing snow, and there will probably only be a few thunderstorms, but if there is a heavier band of snow moving through you, you could wake up to something. Overnight temperatures will be in the low teens and the wind chill in the morning will feel much colder. Don’t jump out of your jacket!

Tri Lakes Forecast: Low: 14; High: 27;
It will get into the teens in the Monument area this evening, and there could be a few heavier bands of snow moving through, but the chances are not high. When I wake up tomorrow there will be a few lingering clouds, but they should clear by mid-morning. Temperatures will still be cold. So when you go outside, grab the jacket!

Plains forecast: Low: teenagers and single digits; High: mid-20s;
The Plains saw freezing rain before this snow moved in, and there are some areas closer to the border where dangerous road conditions will prevail. The wind will likely blow snow around and make visibility difficult. There may also be fog in the early morning hours, which could also limit visibility. Winter weather advisories are in effect until 8 a.m. Sunday. Accumulations will be between 1 and 3 inches where we see the heavier bands of snow. Wind chills will also be dangerously low, falling below zero at times. Gusty winds are also expected tomorrow, but this system is still expected to continue eastward and the snow will stop in the morning.

Forecast for Walsenburg and Trinidad: Low: 20/19 ; High: 33;
Walsenburg and Trinidad will have the least chance of getting decent aggregates. A few storms will still be possible and we are only looking at a trace at most. Overnight temperatures will be cold in the upper teens/low 20s. Tomorrow the sun will shine again, but it won’t warm us much.

Mountain Forecast: Low: Individual digits; High: 20s;
The mountains, particularly the peaks, are likely to have the greatest impact. Some roads already have very slippery areas, so it is better to avoid driving through the mountains at this time. Temperatures overnight will be in the single digits, with wind chills below zero. High temperatures tomorrow won’t warm up much, just reaching into the 20s.

Advanced Forecast Forecast:
Sunday and Monday both appear to be mostly dry with the sun shining throughout the day. However, this cold air will linger and help us prepare for Tuesday. There also appears to be a bit more moisture with this next storm system and the dynamics are consistent for a decent event. There are still some discrepancies between models and not everyone agrees. As we get closer you should have a better idea of what’s going on, but right now we have a good chance of snow along I-25 for Tuesday. This also means that travel is likely to have a larger impact.
